A new feature from WhatsApp and team is currently being tested and for the feature to function, users might need to link their Meta Accounts Centre accounts to their WhatsApp accounts.
This feature is a new feature that makes it simpler to integrate profile photographs from other current accounts on other social media platforms and is reportedly being tested by WhatsApp for its Android app. The instant messaging client might support the direct import of profile photographs from other apps owned by Meta Platforms, like Facebook and Instagram, a feature tracker has discovered. This expands on previous cross-platform capabilities like unified avatar management and single sign-on.
The feature is included in the WhatsApp beta for Android 2.25.21.23, according to WhatsApp feature tracker WABetaInfo. Users can import profile photographs from Instagram and Facebook to use on WhatsApp after updating to this version. According to reports, it can be located in WhatsApp settings under the profile area.
Users usually tap on their profile picture and then select Edit to alter a photo. Up until now, they could use the camera to snap a picture, import one from the device gallery, set an avatar, or use Meta AI to produce an image. But according to the feature tracker’s posted screenshot (above), Facebook and Instagram are now two more alternatives available in this menu.
The thought is that by tapping either Instagram or Facebook, the profile photo used in the account associated with the user, it will be instantly retrieved. According to reports, users might need to connect their WhatsApp account to the Meta Accounts Center. It acts as a central location that controls the connections amongst Meta’s applications.
Previously, a user may upload a photo from their local storage if they wanted to utilize it on WhatsApp from an existing social media platform. The only alternative, though, was to manually upload the picture to WhatsApp after downloading it from Facebook or Instagram. Therefore, the entire procedure might be streamlined by this new integration.
Users have complete flexibility over whether or not they want to link their accounts, according to the WABetaInfo article, which also stated that this option is disabled by default. It has been stated that WhatsApp’s fundamental privacy features, like end-to-end encryption, are unaffected by linking Meta accounts.
It’s not the first time Meta’s Accounts Center has been integrated. Features like having a single login across several apps and cross-posting stories are already supported. WhatsApp is now one step closer to providing a more integrated experience within Meta’s ecosystem by allowing users to import profile pictures.
It’s crucial to remember that this feature won’t be activated automatically. Users will be able to choose whether to link or keep their accounts separate, according to WABetaInfo. Users can only choose to opt in because the feature will be turned off by default. Additionally, WhatsApp will still provide the same degree of privacy, including end-to-end encryption, in spite of this cross-platform syncing, and this change will not have any effect on that.
According to the feature tracker, WhatsApp’s ability to import profile images from Facebook and Instagram is presently being developed for Android. It is only available to beta testers who have signed up through the Google Play Beta program, which is still in the development stage. It might be included in a later app version. Although the feature’s public release date has not been confirmed, it is most likely going to be a part of one of the next upgrades.
