It appears like WhatsApp is trying to make the platform’s calling experience better. The Meta-owned site reportedly plans to add voicemails soon after launching the call scheduling tool.
A new feature which will allow users on Whatsapp to leave an audio message if their call is not answered is being tested by WhatsApp. The messaging app will provide a prompt at the bottom of the call screen, and it is now accessible to a limited number of beta testers using the most recent beta version of WhatsApp for Android. They can try making another WhatsApp call or record a voice message. In the meanwhile, a recently added menu option allows WhatsApp beta testers on iOS to quickly choose and copy multiple messages.
WABetaInfo reports that WhatsApp’s most recent Android version for beta testers now includes the voicemail ability. Some users can now leave a voicemail if their call is not answered thanks to this upgrade.
Whatsapp users might now notice and will be presented with the option which is a new Record voice message after updating to the WhatsApp beta version for Android 2.25.23.21, which was initially noticed by feature tracker WABetaInfo. If a call is not answered, caller can use this feature to leave a voicemail/voice call. The choice would show up between the Cancel and Call Again buttons at the bottom of the screen and the called recipient would receive this right away. Users can record and submit a voice note quickly, eliminating the need to call again later and facilitating prompt delivery of their message. The message may then be listened to by the recipient whenever they had time.
A sneak peek at the Record voice message feature was also revealed by the feature tracker. Users can rapidly record and send a voice message by pressing a button near the bottom of the call screen when a call is missed.
WABetaInfo claims that this shortcut also appears in the chat window where the missed call happened, providing a prompt method of following up. When a call goes unanswered, this function serves as a quick means to send a message, even if standard audio messages can also be transmitted.
The voice message automatically gets sent within the conversation after it has been recorded, so the recipient can listen whenever they have time. In order to ensure that customers are aware of both the missed call and the voicemail that follows, the missed call notification remains accessible.
A number of significant WhatsApp improvements include the forthcoming audio message for missed calls functionality. According to reports, Meta is also investigating motion photo support to improve how users share visual content and developing a new Writing Help assistant to offer writing advice.
On regular calls, the feature functions similarly to voicemails. On the other hand, users can leave a message during regular phone calls if they are not answered. Recording the message is an additional step on WhatsApp.
Separate voice messages can always be sent by users on the Meta-owned platform. However, the voicemail feature would allow the recipient to comprehend the context by immediately connecting the message to the call. This might contribute to WhatsApp becoming the go-to app for audio calls. There is no formal schedule for when this functionality will be made available to the general public or even for an iOS beta release.
Voice messages are only allowed to last one minute, according to early users, and the message prompt only shows up after the call has ended.
Although a worldwide deployment date has not been announced by WhatsApp, tech insiders speculate that the update may be made available to the public before the end of 2025.
