With 1Password and iOS 8, you’ll never need to remember a password again

Undoubtedly, one of the game-changing features Apple unveiled during its iOS 8 update was the extensive use of extensions. This groundbreaking modification improved the compatibility of third-party iOS apps in an attempt to instill a smooth, effortless app-centric atmosphere, significantly reducing the need to switch between apps. As an illustration, Apple displayed this functionality during the WWDC through an example of photo editing. The days of transferring a single photo amongst several apps to get the desired outcome are set to be consigned to history.

However, the full potential of extensions is not restricted to photo editing. It stretches to more critical arenas, such as password management. This promise is indicated in the teaser showcased by 1Password for its bespoke extension on iOS 8. The ultimate goal is to create a hassle-free procedure, enabling third-party apps to use 1Password in autofilling your password within the app itself, eradicating the need for password memorization or even a PIN entry.

AgileBits, the intelligent minds behind 1Password, have a plan to incorporate TouchID for authentication, capitalizing on Apple’s strategy to liberalize its security measure along with the iOS 8 update. Upon successful implementation, logging in could become as straightforward as resting a finger on the home button — a massive leap from the old, laborious password entry method.

Although passwords may still hold some relevance, the introduction of the extension feature with iOS 8 certainly alleviates the challenge involved with them. Adding to that, Apple is now granting third-party apps access to iCloud Keychain on iOS 8, further streamlining login procedures for users with stored passwords. Android users may find this feature familiar, although it’s not identical, as comparable solutions are provided by apps like LastPass.
