Today at WWDC22, a completely redesigned MacBook Air took the stage during the keynote. The new 2022 model device will be powered by the newest and more powerful chip by Apple, the M2 processor. The new chip takes on and improves on all the breakthrough performance and capabilities of M1.

Side profiles of MacBook Air opened up in silver, starlight, space gray, and midnight.

MacBook Air debuts everything users already love about the world’s best-selling laptop while taking it even further to the next level. The design of the new Macbook air comes closer to that of the 14-inch MacBook Pro, with a more squared-off look than the traditional wedge shape. The design comes in an all-new, strikingly thin design and brings exceptional speed and power efficiency within its durable all-aluminium enclosure. MacBook Air features a larger 13.6-inch Liquid Retina display, a 1080p FaceTime HD webcam, and a four-speaker sound system that supports Dolby Atmos.

The new device is guaranteed to deliver up to 18 hours of battery life, and MagSafe charging. Like the previous model, the new 2022 MacBook Air features a Touch ID on the keyboard that can unlock your Mac, use Apple Pay for payments, open password-protected documents, and make purchases on the Apple TV app.

The device has a thickness of about 11mm and weighs 2.7 pounds. It has two Thunderbolt USB 4 ports and a headphone jack. This device will be available to the public in silver, space grey, and new “starlight” gold and “midnight” blue colours. One nice touch is that each model of the MacBook Air includes a braided MagSafe cable that matches the colourway.

This MacBook Air will be available to the public starting July at $1,199. The product page is live, but Apple isn’t accepting orders currently. Models of this device will include the M2, an 8-core GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. For users who would prefer more power, storage, and RAM, you can get the $1,499 model that comes with a 10-core GPU, 8GB of RAM, and 512GB of storage. Each configuration can support up to 24GB of RAM and 2TB of storage. The M1-based Air will continue to be available for $999.

This device also features a larger 2560×1664 13.6-inch display with smaller bezels surrounding it, as well as 500 nits of peak brightness. Apple claims that the 2022 device is up to 40-per cent faster than the previous model, but that performance boost slightly varies depending on the app. Also features a silent, fan-less design, in other words, it can deliver amazing performance without a fan — so it stays completely silent no matter how intense the task.
