X Hit By Another Brief Outage

This will be the third time in the month of January, with a space of 10 days. Elon Musk’s X had widespread technical issues for the third time in less than a week. However, it seems that the outage was fixed in a matter of minutes. The first was January 13th, the second was January 16th, and now today.

A widespread outage that happened on January 13th that lasted around 90 minutes had, at its peak, almost 80,000 reports in the United States.

Over 28,000 people were impacted by a worldwide outage on January 13, 2026, which resulted in sporadic problems with publishing and loading timelines.

According to uptime tracking service Downdetector, error reports with X started to increase around 12:00 ET on Thursday. According to Downdetector, over 20,000 users had reported issues with the social networking site as of 12:14 p.m. ET. Both x.com and the X mobile apps were experiencing issues. About half of the user reports mentioned the website, 47% mentioned problems with the app, and 3% mentioned login issues.

Although third-party observers connected earlier failures in 2026 to possible infrastructure instability or technological issues, the platform has not officially given an explanation for the incident. Within 30 minutes of the original outage reports, it appeared that the problems affecting X today had been resolved. On January 22, there was a “service-wide outage” with “intermittent errors,” along with a statement stating that the “incident has been resolved,” according to the X Developer Platform status page. The message’s timestamp showed that the problems happened between 17:30 and 17:45 UTC (12:30 and 12:45 p.m. ET).

Although third-party observers connected earlier failures in 2026 to possible infrastructure instability or technological issues, the platform has not officially given an explanation for the January 22 incident. Users frequently consult Downdetector or the X Developer Status Page for real-time updates during such occasions.

The most recent outage comes after other technical issues that have interfered with the platform in recent months.

Following a similar widespread outage that lasted almost three hours in November 2024, when tens of thousands of users reported problem messages like “Internal server error / Error code 500” and “Please unblock challenges.cloudflare.com to proceed,” X experienced a brief outage on January 16.

In 2025, there were several disruptions on the social network, which is a division of Musk’s xAI artificial intelligence business. On March 10, 2025, the social network experienced rolling disruptions, which Musk attributed to “a massive cyberattack” against the platform.
