Xbox One August update to add new activity feed, mobile purchases, low battery notification, 3D Blu-ray, more

Microsoft announced an array of new additions and enhancements scheduled for the upcoming Xbox One update this August. Eight notable innovations have been highlighted, which include enhancements to the activity feed, a broadened Friends zone on your homepage, mobile purchases, a low battery warning, a “do not disturb” function for video viewing, 3D Blu-ray compatibility, the extension of OneGuide to more countries, and the integration of the “last seen” feature in the Friends list.

The activity feed interface will be the first to see changes, transitioning into a more extensive, single column scrolling list to embrace more content. This improvement will enable gamers to post text on their feeds, engage with posts, and share game clips either openly on their feed or privately via message attachments. Notifications will also be triggered for interactions on your posts.

In addition, each user’s profile will feature a personal feed, showcasing the most recent activities of individual friends, with SmartGlass gaining access to this novel feature. You will be able to observe what your friends have shared publicly on their feed and interact with their posts. The Friends list will also display how long your friend has been offline.

The Home area will exhibit a broader friends’ section, showcasing their current gaming activities, trending games and a Gamerscore-focused leaderboard. This feature will be subjected to “extended preview” testing and might not be released simultaneously for every user.

The update incorporates a mobile purchasing feature, allowing users to acquire games and additional content from their mobile devices via Xbox SmartGlass or Xbox.com. If your console is configured for auto updates, your purchase will automatically download, irrespective of your physical location.

Furthermore, your Xbox One will now send alerts when your controller battery depletes. Other enhancements include the ability to turn off notifications during video playback and 3D Blu-ray support. OneGuide will broaden its coverage to Brazil, Mexico, Austria, and Ireland.

For gamers who have early access to the Xbox One system update, they may expect the new rollout within the week. Microsoft stated these upgrades are mainly derived from the feedback generated through the recently debuted Xbox Feedback site, hinting at more advancements in the pipeline.

Minor enhancements were applied in 2025 for readability.
