Of course, we have said it again and again, the metaverse is here to stay, it is the next big thing, and events are gradually moving to happen on the Metaverse. Recall we recently shared how the metaverse is changing the way the world attends concerts. The Game Awards is the latest institution to try its hand at virtual worlds. The Game Awards is an annual awards ceremony honoring achievements in the video game industry. This event was established in 2014 and is known to bring together a diverse group of game developers, game players, and notable names from popular culture to celebrate and advance gaming’s position as the most immersive, challenging, and inspiring form of entertainment.

The awards show is slated to take place on December 9th and will be available to watch through the usual platforms like YouTube and Twitch. This year a “metaverse experience” built with the creation tool Core has also been planned for viewers and game enthusiasts. Viewers seeking the metaverse experience will not only be able to watch the event within the Core experience, but they also get to be part of things like attending a virtual version of the red carpet, and also partake in “several unique interactive experiences that are only available during the broadcast.” The Game Awards isn’t stopping there, the experience will also continue with an after-party with a currently undisclosed DJ. Metaverse enthusiasts are about to get shocked. Everyone who joins in will receive an exclusive Axial Tilt profile pic and there will be a bunch of mini-games too in case of a mid-ceremony lull.

“I’m always on the lookout for exciting new ways to bring The Game Awards to new audiences,” said Game Awards host Geoff Keighley. “The emergence of new metaverse platforms like Core, and the extended virtual experiences they enable around live events, presented an amazing opportunity to give fans a new interactive way to experience the show. And considering it’s a show about interactive entertainment, it felt like a perfect fit.”

Given that The Game Awards broadcast on a huge range of platforms already, this move is part of a growing trend being used by the likes of Facebook, Fortnite to give the audience a whole different experience all banded together under the metaverse label. According to The Verge, the Game Awards kicks off at 9 PM ET on December 9th, and the show has historically been a place full of game reveals and big trailers. Earlier in the month host, Geoff Keighley confirmed that, given the ongoing revelations of abuse at Activision Blizzard, the publisher would not be involved with the show outside of its nominations.

Especially because the holiday season is quickly coming upon us many more surprises will revolve around the subject matter, so we nudge you to keep your fingers crossed and expect more surprises of things happening in the Metaverse.
