YouTube, the widely acknowledged global leader in video sharing, has [announced](http://youtube-global.blogspot.com/2015/06/a-youtube-built-for-gamers.html) a bold strategic move – launching a dedicated website and app exclusively for gaming. This calculated move positions Google, YouTube’s parent company, toe-to-toe with Twitch, the gaming platform that Amazon acquired for nearly $970m last year.

This rivalry has a hint of backstory; Google had reportedly bid for Twitch previously, but Amazon ultimately clinched the deal, staking its claim in the lucrative gaming market. Not one to back down, Google clearly sees tremendous potential in the gaming industry and this launch is unequivocal evidence of YouTube’s strategic move into the realm of gaming.

In recent years, YouTube has launched a plethora of innovative features and products that not only enrich its platform but also cater to diverse user interests. Notable examples include [Music Insights](https://www.techbooky.com/post-title/youtube-launches-music-insights-to-help-artists-on-different-fronts/), a data-rich feature designed to keep artists and fans on the same wavelength, and [YouTube for kids](https://www.techbooky.com/post-title/youtube-releases-app-for-kids/), a recent initiative that turns YouTube consumption into a family affair.

Alan Joyce, the Product Manager at YouTube, emphasizes the significance of this launch, “On YouTube, gaming has spawned entirely new genres of videos, from let’s plays, walkthroughs, and speedruns to cooking and music videos. Now, it’s our turn to return the favor with something built just for gamers.”

As the gaming community eagerly awaits the new service, the targeted launch date not yet revealed but speculated to be in the summer. If we were to hazard a guess, it may very well be July.

Stay tuned for more updates on this exciting development as YouTube gears up to duel with Twitch for global gaming supremacy. This fierce competition promises to drive innovation and constantly improve user experience — an exhilarating win for gamers worldwide.
