Facebook’s CEO, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have expressed their commitment to education by pledging to donate $120 million to schools in the Bay Area through the Startup:Education fund. The donation aims to support the establishment of new district and charter schools and bolster current K-12 institutions by equipping them with supplementary resources. This significant financial commitment is part of ongoing philanthropic initiatives by Zuckerberg, the most recent of which was a donation of $100 million to Newark, New Jersey schools. However, the implementation of this donation ran into several bureaucratic hurdles.

Minor enhancements were applied in 2025 for readability.
