Huawei Plans On Launching Harmony OS For Its Smartphones By June

U.S Sanctions banned Huawei Technology Ltd from receiving technical support and mobile services from Google which all Android phones need to operate in 2019. The company has announced that it will be launching its own operating system for its smartphones soon. According to the company, Harmony OS, which is the name of the upcoming operating system will be released on the 2nd of June this year. This will be the company’s biggest action of recovering from the damage that it suffered from the sanctions that it received from the U.S.

After the launch of Harmony OS, Huawei devices will no longer depend on Google’s Android. Although the new Harmony OS is not a panacea to all the damages done by the U.S. sanctions, it will go a long way in alleviating the effects that the ban caused. The U.S. sanction against Huawei Technology Ltd took effect in 2019 and barred the Chinese company from accessing technologies that are indigenous to the U.S., and became a barrier to the company’s production process; the company could neither design its own chips nor outsource for chips.

The new Harmony OS will be launched in June but it is still a mystery if it will be launched alongside new devices and if previous Huawei smartphones that run on Google’s Android would receive this update too.

Under the Trump administration, Huawei Technologies alongside other Chinese companies were blacklisted as threat to national security. The company denied these claims saying that it was not part of any ploy to sabotage the U.S.

The U.S. Government recently announced its decision to remove Xiaomi Corp from blacklist that consists of Chinese companies that allegedly had ties with Chinese military. Xiaomi Corp did not take these claims and filed a lawsuit while also describing its placement on the blacklist as “unlawful and unconstitutional”.

Under Donald Trump’s administration, several Chinese companies were placed on a blacklist for allegedly having ties with the Chinese military. Xiaomi’s recent acquittal gives hopes to other Chinese companies that were placed on the blacklist. These listed companies plan to take the same step Xiaomi Corp took and hope to be taken off this blacklist.

Blacklist or not, Huawei Technology Ltd has developed its Harmony OS, and by next month, it will be launched.
