Huawei made the first HarmonyOS PC operating system official as it moves closer to independence from the Western reliance. The company unveiled the most anticipated PC product of the year at the HarmonyOS Computer Technology and Ecosystem Communication Event. The newest addition introduces Huawei’s own computer operating system, HarmonyOS PC (also known as Hongmeng Computer in the Chinese market), which runs on all devices.

Huawei talked about the importance of HarmonyOS PCs in the Chinese computer market and showcased the HarmonyOS PC operating system during the occasion.

The brand HarmonyOS recognises that it is for all gadgets which has now created a new era for Huawei devices, according to Zhu Dongdong, President of Huawei Device BG Tablet and PC Product Line where he made the announcement at the company’s HarmonyOS Computer Technology and Ecosystem Communication Event (wow, that’s a mouthful).

Smartphones, tablets, smart TVs, wearable technology, cockpits, and, lastly, PCs are all now covered by the updated and in-house operating system.

The HarmonyOS for PC has this time said, the business has redesigned its in-house HarmonyOS version for PCs. It has improved three key areas and rebuilt the operating system from the kernel which are HarmonyOS Base, HarmonyOS Ecosystem and The HarmonyOS Experience which are the fundamentals pillars of HarmonyOS PC.

The Base includes the Ark Engine for UI and graphics performance, the HarmonyOS kernel, the StarShield architecture for security, and a number of other backend components.

The HarmonyOS kernel, Ark Engine, StarShield architecture security, ArkTS, ArkUI, and DevEco are all included in the initial section, often known as HarmonyOS Base. Together, these elements guarantee optimal performance from the computer-dedicated software.

HarmonyOS Ecosystem: Over 150 unique computing ecosystem applications have been created and enhanced by the firm. Additionally, it has incorporated more than 2000 universal ecosystem applications.

According to Zhu, Huawei has also updated the HarmonyOS PC smart office. It has changed how people work together, access accounts, collaborate across devices, connect with HarmonyOS AI, and more.

All things considered, HarmonyOS PC applications cover a range of vertical disciplines to satisfy fundamental office needs.

HarmonyOS Experience: According to the tech giant, HarmonyOS PC can assist the computer in supporting over a thousand external devices. 800 common peripherals and 20 device categories, including keyboards, mice, displays, and more, are shown in the illustration.

More than 2000 universal ecosystem apps are integrated into the HarmonyOS Ecosystem, along with more than 150 unique apps. Basic computing needs are met by a variety of apps and an integrated WPS office.

More than 1000 external devices are supported by HarmonyOS Experience, including 20 device categories such keyboards, mouse, and monitors, as well as 800 common peripherals. Additionally, more than 250 non-standard secondary devices, including printers, tablets, scanners, and more, have been certified compatible.

Naturally, deep AI integration is also a feature of HarmonyOS PC! Though the business didn’t reveal much about the user interface, this video, which Huawei shared on Weibo, shows that the OS features a dock of icons at the bottom centre of the home screen, similar to Apple’s macOS.

Features of HarmonyOS PC

Visuals: To improve visual experiences, the new operating system supports the Ark graphics engine. Fangtian Window, which uses low-land unified rendering and extremely parallel operation, is the foundation of Ark graphics. It emphasizes interaction and is grounded in human issues.

Smooth Performance: Even with numerous windows open, Ark graphics makes sure the computer runs smoothly. It lowers load, improves stability and smoothness, and provides a high frame rate on the focus window.

In order to improve visual effects, the engine now enables pixel-level occlusion culling, which concentrates on the window’s exposed area.

Security: Using Nearlink precise search, HarmonyOS PC has attained meter-level location and is outfitted with the StarShield Security architecture. Don’t worry if you misplaced your Huawei computer or device—the updated software will help you!

On both the searched device and the searcher, users must sign into the same Huawei account. Simply flip on the “Find Device” option after finishing the security check. Even when the smartphone is turned off, the feature remains functional.

In order to prevent data leaks, HarmonyOS PC also allows remote data deletion. Additional capabilities include Huawei sharing, cross-device collaboration, app continuation, and a distributed soft bus that facilitates keyboard and mouse sharing.
