Microsoft is in advanced stages of negotiations with the government of India to set up a data centre with local media saying the investment would range between $2 billion to $2.25 billion.

This would be one of Microsoft investment outside the US if the clearance Microsoft is alleged to be awaiting from global teams is granted.

Telangana Minister for IT and Industries KT Rama Rao had a few months earlier kick started discussions by dialoguing with the senior management of Microsoft.

Sources told local media that: “The discussions are in the final stage. Certain issues such as whether it would be a single location or multiple and the size of the investment are yet to be finalized. Microsoft appears to be willing to go ahead with setting up a data centre here, though officially not confirmed,”

It is believed that Microsoft had requested that the state government keep the details of the discussions private pending when everything is set as Amazon Web Services (AWS) had earlier announced its second data centre in Telangana with an investment of $2.77 billion.

Microsoft is an American multinational technology company which produces computer software, consumer electronics, personal computers, and related services, was founded by Childhood friends Bill Gates and Paul Allen and has grown to be one of the Big Five companies in the U.S. information technology industry, along with Google, Apple, Amazon, and Facebook. The new development will further cement its place in the software world.
