Personal Intelligence will apparently be extended to NotebookLM talks by Google. Personal Intelligence, which is a significant update for NotebookLM that Google is apparently exploring, would enable the AI to learn from your previous interactions and preferences.

Google is reportedly testing the feature in NotebookLM that enables AI chatbots to easily obtain information from compatible knowledge hubs to customise responses. If accurate, this will be the second time the tech giant has expanded the feature; the first was last month when it was added to AI Mode in Search. Although significant information is still lacking, the article states that Google intends to give NotebookLM two levels of personal intelligence, enabling distinct behaviour for each notebook.

The Gemini maker is currently testing Personal Intelligence within NotebookLM, per a TestingCatalog article. According to the journal, it discovered proof of the integration in the platform’s software, indicating how Google may add functionality to the AI-powered research platform.

Two levels of personal intelligence are allegedly being added, as was previously suggested. The article discovered ways to turn it on in Settings and in the settings of every notebook. This suggests that users may be able to customise prompts for the platform as a whole and then adjust each notebook to suit their needs. Once enabled, NotebookLM may supposedly learn from the user’s chat history to determine what they want, according to references. Furthermore, a custom prompt field that “pre-fills a profile-like description” was also surfaced by TestingCatalog.

Whether Google intends to allow NotebookLM to connect to Gemini in order to have a better understanding of the user’s preferences, or if it will also have access to Gmail and other platforms for the same purpose, is still unknown. According to the magazine, the feature looks more like a persona customisation than a data integration and personalisation feature given its current setup.

Please take note that the information above is based on code snippets. Nevertheless, developers frequently include references to intended features that never come to pass or, if they do, are implemented very differently. Therefore, we advise waiting until Google formally announces these features and treating this information with caution.

The important features that is being developed shows

  • Persistent Context: To avoid repeating instructions, the tool attempts to retain certain writing styles, target audiences, and research requirements between sessions.
  • Knowledge Hub Integration: It could easily pull information from individual “knowledge hubs” to deliver more pertinent and customised answers.
  • Specialised Personas: By allowing users to create adaptable personas and long-lasting objectives, the software might evolve from a simple personal assistant to a long-term research collaborator.
  • Discovery Status: Although Google has not yet disclosed a date for a general public release, TestingCatalog was the first to notice these features as experimental options in the settings menu.

With the present NotebookLM updates, which Google recently extended to the fundamental platform, even though “Personal Intelligence” is still in testing, it aims at showcasing

  • Deep Research: More intricate searches across a variety of file types are now possible thanks to new features.
  • Multimedia Support: LaTeX rendering for technical equations and video overviews with visual assistance are now available on the platform.
  • Premium Tiers: NotebookLM Plus, which provides greater restrictions and corporate-grade safeguards, is now available to Google Workspace and enterprise clients.
