KickassTorrents Returns, Revived By Former Staff

In July, the tight-knit online community of KickassTorrents (KAT) was steeped in dismay following reports of their 30-year-old founder, Artem Vaulin, being arrested in Poland on numerous copyright violation charges. Vaulin, known among the community by the pseudonym “tirm,” was the mastermind behind several sites associated with the allegations, necessitating their closure. Among those taken offline was KickassTorrents – a significant loss that left many in the digital media realm bereft.

However, in a surprising turn of events, the defunct site, which was once a popular platform for file sharing, now appears to be up and running again. The phoenix-like revival of KAT has been credited to a dedicated team of former staff who refused to let the platform fade away.

Following KAT’s abrupt shutdown earlier in the year, this resolute team launched into action, creating a similar platform under the domain Katcr.co. Their strides did not stop there – they worked tirelessly to bring back the site that users were acquainted with. Their efforts are conspicuous in the resurrected site’s aesthetics, which harken back to KAT’s original look, complete with its logo proudly identifying it as a product of the KickassTorrents team.

The newly launched site, located at katcr.co/new, has been receiving substantial traffic since its debut. Many users have noted that the site has been taking slightly longer to load due to the surge in usage, but reassurances have been given that the platform will stabilize over time.

The site, although furnished with a fresh database, continues to be managed by the very staff who were once part of the original KAT operation. As a result, users can look forward to relishing a comparable, if not identical, experience to that of the past.

The KATcr team released a statement to TorrentFreak expressing their pride in the platform’s comeback and commitment to its loyal user base, “The majority of our original Staff, Admins, and Moderation team joined us after Kat.cr went down – which is something we’re very proud of. This shows the loyalty, dedication and real love for KAT that we all share.”

Therein lies the essence of the KickassTorrents story – an undeniable testament to the power of digital media communities, the tenacity of a dedicated team, and the enduring appeal of online sharing platforms.
