Notorious Ramsomware gang, Revil, famed in the web space for attacking JBS Foods and a major IT software vendor has in a mysterious fashion, vanished as they are nowhere to be found on the internet.

Cybersecurity experts who had hitherto being tracking and trying to investigate the group discovered the cybercriminal gang, who were believed to be operating from Eastern Europe or Russia has disappeared from the internet. Their websites and other infrastructures have been disabled and non-accessible. The web page they had where they boastfully listed the names of their victims is also no more accessible.

Lawrence Abrams, creator of the information security blog BleepingComputer had happily tweeted;

“All REvil sites are down, including the payment sites and data leak site. The public ransomware gang representative [sic], Unknown, is strangely quiet.”

A cross section of people also confirmed that the sites used by the cyber criminals for ransom payment by victims is not connecting.

The cause of the sudden disappearance of the criminal gang, though yet unclear but there are insinuation that it may be due to high-profile hackings they have been involved in as they have seized control of  high profile  companies system  software not only in the US but all over the  world.

There have also been reports that US President, Joe Biden has sent a warning to his Russian counterpart, Vladimir Putin of dire consequences if the cyber attacks coming from his domain are not swiftly looked into.

The Biden administration has increasingly identified ransomware as a threat to national and economic security, highlighting its potential to disrupt critical infrastructure that Americans depend on.

Ransomware works by locking down a computer network,stealing and also encrypting data, contacts of victims until they agree to pay a fee.

On refusal to adhere to their demands, victims would have their private information leaked online for all to see. Over these years, ransomware gangs have targeted hospitals, universities, police departments, city governments, and a wide range of other targets.
