Every day, technologies that provide solutions to problems that we face in our day-to-day life are being invented. These technologies make life easier and allow us to perform activities faster and better. If you take a moment to notice, you will notice that technology is evolving at an alarming rate. If you want to secure a place for yourself in the future, then you must get acquainted with basic tech skills now. As a student, if you are studying for a degree and also working, there are certain tech skills that you need to know. These tech skills will boost your performance in school, at work, and in life generally. In this article, you will learn 7 tech skills that you need to know as a working student.

        1. Web Research

Not everything that you need to know will be taught in the class and not all solutions to work problems will be provided by your boss. Sometimes, you need to do a bit of research by yourself. Knowing how to navigate the internet – the what, how, and where to search – will give you access to resources that will help you thrive successfully in your work-school life. There is a wealth of information online available for you and the best thing is that these pieces of information are free. All you need to do is to know how to search for them.

          2. Microsoft Office:

The Microsoft Office Suite is a set of software that allows you to create, edit, and prepare documents for presentation or other purposes. A lot of companies still make use of Microsoft Office though others are using software like Google Docs, Google Sheet, etc because they allow you to save your work progress online. However, learning how to use Microsoft Office proficiently will help you depend less on paper, create a document, and design it to your taste.

         3. Social Media

Out of the 7.9 billion people in the universe, a 2020 study revealed that over 3.6 million are active on social media. This means that if social media were a country, it would be the world’s most populated country. What does that mean to you as a working student? It means that you can connect with people who have the same interest as you from anywhere in the world. You can also find clients or make friends on social media.

         4. Security

Cybersecurity is becoming a menace in society and in the world at large. People’s personal information has been compromised just by clicking an ad on the internet or by opening the link in an email. As a working student, you need to understand how to use antivirus and VPNs for the safety of yourself and your system. There are many options for this software so you have to read good reviews of different VPNs and antivirus to choose the best one for you.

          5. Online Etiquette

There is a huge distinction between the internet and real life. It is a whole new world out there so you need to know how to behave yourself. Learn how to communicate with people. Provide value and you will be largely accepted. A lot of suicide cases can be traced to oppression from social media so mind what you say while you are on social media.

          6. Troubleshooting

At one point in your life, you will encounter problems with software or hardware. Sometimes, this problem could be something that can easily be rectified. You need to learn how to troubleshoot problems so you do not have to wait for a technician every time.

          7. Data Backup

What happens when you suffer the loss or damage of any of your gadgets, say your phone or computer? You can replace that gadget but what happens to the data on it? Learning how to backup your data will allow you to keep important files in a secured place.

If you are a working student, these tech skills are a must-know. You are getting a taste of both worlds so you need to learn how to get by and make life easier for you. You can also learn how to find online courses that you can take to improve your resume and make you qualified for a promotion or improve your knowledge about your course of study and get yourself a better grade.
