In Brief
  • The Nigerian federal government has restored Twitter operations per president Mohammedu Buhari’s order.

  •   Twitter was reportedly locked out of Nigeria for seven months since June 2021.

The Nigerian federal government has restored Twitter operations per president Mohammedu Buhari’s order. The ban was lifted at midnight after the bird app accepted the conditions for operating its social media in Nigeria.

Twitter was reportedly locked out of Nigeria for seven months since June 2021. Buhari assigned a Technical Committee arbitrating with Twitter’s team negotiating the terms and conditions for a restored social service. After several arbitration sessions, Buhari then approved Twitter release because Jack Dorsey accepted to comply with the new conditions.

Recall Buhari’s activities were flagged for promoting genocidal opinions against his country’s citizens. While arbitrating sessions were ongoing, Twitter’s team did not disclose their rules to Buhari’s Technical Committee, rather danced to Buhari’s tone to restore its social service in Nigeria.

The Nigerian minister of information, Lai Mohammed was appointed the chairman of Buhari’s Technical Committee. Lai recently summed up his drafted conditions for Twitter’s operations in Nigeria. He then reported it to the president for the final overview.

“The Federal Government of Nigeria (FGN) directs me to inform the public that President Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, has approved the lifting of the suspension of Twitter operation in Nigeria effective from midnight tonight, 13th January 2022.”

Nigerians welcome back the social media likewise no one will have to worry about virtual networks to hide their online presence on Twitter. The Nigerian government also commented about restoring social media and encouraged Nigerians to beware of crime via the web.
