Ever since video games appeared on the screens, people have been obsessed with them. Competitive gaming is on the rise, and now players love to work against each other to determine who is the loser and who is the winner. In this day and age, we are going to be focusing on eSports, which is a video game that is normally played on a professional level. It also has a large audience.

The First Tournament

The very first tournament occurred at Stamford University. Students competed in the well-known game at the time, Spacewar. The prize for this was a year’s subscription to the Rolling Stones publication. In 1980, the first video game competition was held. The game had a huge level of attendance and it also helped to make it a household name at the time, an interesting footnote on the power of word of mouth at the time.

1980s

As the 1980s wore on, it would seem that a lot of companies that actually recorded high scores went on to experience a lot of success. Twin Galaxies is an interesting one, as they promoted video games and they also posted the scores in the Guinness Book of Records. If you look at the world of eSports, you will also see that now it is also possible to bet on sports games, which is indicative of the evolution of the industry to a new level.

1990s

When the 1990s came around, it also saw the rise of the internet and the web in general. The internet made gaming soar to new levels, and it also helped to connect gamers through the web too. This meant that competitive gaming was now possible. Internet connectivity also gave a huge rise to the growth of PC games as well as companies such as Nintendo. Blockbuster, another company, also started to sponsor the video game world and they helped to create championships around the world. This sponsorship and subsequent arrangements helped to make the game industry fly to new heights. Additionally, it also helped to make companies – that were not really known at the time – become household names and, subsequently, to grow to become some of the biggest companies in the world.

Present Day

In this day and age, there are more and more games coming out all the time. Now it is possible for you to play sports games with other people in a competitive environment and if you are really good, you may find that it is more than possible for you to take part in a full tournament. Some eSport gamers are able to get sponsorships and they are also able to take things to that next level by forming teams. This means that when anyone competes in a game, they do so in the name of the team, and this helps them to really rocket their potential while also making it easier to reap the overall benefits.

So, it has never been easier for you to take advantage of this movement and compete in eSports yourself. Sometimes there is an entry fee though, so getting a lot of practice will help you to make sure that you are making it worth your while.
