The Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) has eventually revealed the release date of the fifth-generation broadband connection network installation in Nigeria to commence on August 24th, 2022. As expected the NCC 5G installation project will be supervised by the likes of MTN Nigeria and Mafab communications — the winners of the 5G spectrum NCC auctioned for local telecommunications services providers.

The winners of the NCC’s previous 5G spectrum are mandated to combine resources to actualize the latest controversial 5G. According to the NCC report, NTN and Mafab will commence rolling out 5G broadband connections across the country in the Q3 of 2022. Recall the announcements were released when the NCC issued the 5G spectrum licensing to Mafab and NTN.

The NCC vice-chairman, Umar Garba Danbatta confirmed the likes of MTN Nigeria and Mafab Communications will kick off the 5G broadband connection installation on August 24th, 2022. “The NCC requires collective efforts and support of the private sector and government toward transforming every aspect of the nation’s economy through 5G, which will herald greater transformation than what the nation witnessed with the 1G, 2G, 3G, and 4G,” Danbatta said.

According to Danbatta’s statement, Nigeria has joined the list of African countries broadcasting 5G connections locally. The likes of Kenya, Ethiopia, Rwanda, and South Africa have rolled out 5G broadband connections across their country. While Nigeria has been debating about releasing the 5G broadband development for Nigerians as an offering to the national digital innovation.

It is worth noting that the listed countries with 5G networks are yet to fully roll out the latest 5G broadband connection. The likes of Kenyan and Ethiopia have the 5G project supervised by local behemoth telecommunications service providers such as Kenyan Safaricom and the Ethiopian-owned Ethio Telecoms.

While the NCC auctioned the 5G spectrum for local telecommunications service providers, the likes of MTN Nigeria, Mafab Communications, and Airtel Nigeria participated in a close competition to gain the available slots. The NCC 5G spectrum dropped Airtel Nigeria per the in-house corporate decision to withdraw expensive bids which leaves MTN the winner of the 5G spectrum bids.

The NCC noted that the 5G broadband connection installation in the country is launching full-time, unlike other African countries that tested the latest broadband connection with a futuristic launch date. The likes of Kenya and South are currently surfing the internet with 5G broadband connectivity provided by capitalist — including Nigeria. Only the Ethiopian 5G broadband development is state-sponsored.
