Price increases are nothing new to YouTube Premium subscribers. After at least one price increase annually since 2022, many users in the US have turned to alternatives such as ad-blockers and updated versions of YouTube .
The most recent price increase for YouTube TV took effect earlier this year, specifically in January. As a result, the price increased from $73/month to $83/month. While there have been no more indications of a YouTube TV or YouTube Premium pricing increase in the United States subsequently, the current events in Australia could provide clues about future developments.
The video-streaming giant is raising the cost of its family plan in Australia, as Australian YouTube Premium subscribers pointed out in a Reddit post.
The plan would now cost $40 instead of $33, a $7 (21%) increase. In Australian dollars, that is. That translates to the plan increasing from $21.40/month to $26/month in USD. In the US, the price of the YouTube Premium family plan is currently $23/month. Figure it out.
The email claims, as usual, that the raise is a step toward providing “great service and features.” The following paying date for users is when the modification takes effect.
According to the information now available, there is no sign that the hike will be incorporated into any other plans in the nation (Individual, Student, or Lite). Nonetheless, there are hints that the hike might be appropriate in other areas.
A random comment on the Australian user’s Reddit post claims that the price increase for the family plan has already reached Europe. As can be seen in the screenshot above, we verified this on the company’s French YouTube Premium page. To our surprise, the page shows the family plan’s monthly pricing as €29.99, which is more than €25.99 as of September of last year.
We were unable to confirm whether the rise is spreading to other EU nations. However, the increase in two distinct continents raises grave fears that similar pricing adjustments may be made in other areas as well.
