In recent times, the e-commerce giant, Amazon, has actively pursued and invested in AI technologies. Like many other companies, AI has contributed immensely to improving their customer satisfaction, fine-tuning the algorithm, creation and adaptation of language models, etc. In a well-timed move, Amazon made known its intention to invest up to $4 billion in Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company. This move guaranteed Amazon’s ownership of a minority stake in Anthropic, and speaks of promising returns in the AI sector. It also emphasizes on the company’s strong commitment to remaining current in the AI landscape, where it faces formidable rivals like Microsoft and Alphabet‘s Google.

Since its debut two years ago, Anthropic has made enough waves that experts have predicted that it would evolve into becoming one of the most formidable alternatives for ChatGPT, especially since it has recently introduced its latest AI chatbot, Claude 2.

Amazon Web Services (AWS), the cloud computing arm of Amazon, has a smattering array of tools and machine learning services to businesses and enterprises, including AI services and tools. Some of the more popular tools are the Amazon Rekognition (for video and image analysis), Amazon SageMaker (a machine learning platform), and Amazon Comprehend (a natural language processing tool).

Amazon and Anthropic have formed an alliance, the goal of which is to champion novel advances in generative AI. Their collaborative efforts have spurred Anthropic to adopt Amazon Web Services (AWS) as its primary cloud provider. Also, Anthropic has resolved to provide early access to exclusive features on the platform. This puts them at the forefront of accessing beta features for customizing and fine-tuning the platform’s capabilities.

In addition to Anthropic,  Amazon has acquired several AI companies to further enhance its productivity and boost customer satisfaction. Over the years, Amazon has acquired Annapurna Labs, a semiconductor company that majors in generative AI, and Zoox, a self-driving car company. Furthermore, Anthropic will employ carefully crafted,  custom-made semiconductors made by AWS as the basis for the training of the foundational models for its AI applications. These foundation models represent extensive AI systems trained on vast troves of data, enabling their adaptability to address a wide spectrum of tasks and challenges.
