Donald Trump-owned social media platform Truth Social will launch on a web browser by the end of this month, according to what CEO Devin Nunes said on Monday.
Truth Social which is available on only Apple’s App Store, for now, launched on the 21st of February. The social media platform was launched by Trump Media and Technology Group (TMTG) and is former President Donald Trump’s way of standing up to social media companies like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube which kicked him out of their platforms for inciting violence during the January 6th US Capitol riots.
According to CEO Devin Nunes, Truth Social will launch on a web browser at the end of May pending when it receives approval to be launched on Google’s Play Store for Android devices. “End of May we will launch PWA (Web Browser) this will allow access from any device. After that we will launch an Android App… pending approval from Google!,” Truth Social’s CEO said on Monday.
The app’s availability on both Apple’s App Store and Google’s Play Store is very crucial if the company is looking to increase downloads and users on its platforms.
The launch of the social media platform launches the return of the former President and business magnate back to social media. Donald Trump was ousted from social media platforms Facebook, Twitter and YouTube after the attack on the US Capitol by his supporters in January last year. The former President was accused of using his social media to incite violence via the messages he posted, and this was breaking a handful of rules governing these platforms.
Truth social has been in use by a close group of people who had been invited to test it, just like how Clubhouse came into the scene. Since its launch, there have been reports of difficulty with registration. While some users encountered problems with registration, some said they were added to a waitlist and that the message displayed reads “Due to massive demand, we have placed you on our waitlist.”
Truth Social was the most downloaded social app on Apple’s App store less than 24 hours after its launch. As of Monday, it was the second app on that list.
Posts on the platform are referred to as “truth”, just like tweets on Twitter.
Donald Trump recently said that he’d not return to Twitter even if his account gets “unbanned” under Elon Musk’s ownership of Twitter.
