Social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, will soon release a TV app specifically for videos posted on the social network. The new app will deliver “real-time, engaging content to your smart TVs,” according to an announcement made by X CEO Linda Yaccarino. A teaser video released by Yaccarino shows how similar the app’s UI is to YouTube’s.
The app will have an algorithm for trending videos, AI-powered topics and videos that help users stay updated with tailored content. You can begin watching a video on your phone and continue on your TV by using the app’s cross-device viewing feature.
According to Yaccarino, the app would work on “most smart TVs” and offer improved video search. The CEO notes that the app will be available “soon,” despite the lack of an official launch date.
Yaccarino’s goal to transform the social media platform into a free-speech “video first” platform includes the impending app launch. There are two original shows on the social network right now: one hosted by former Fox Sports personality Jim Rome, and the other by former politician Tulsi Gabbard. Following his appearance in an interview for the show’s premiere, Musk last month called off his agreement to host a talk show with former CNN anchor Don Lemon.
The news came one week after Donald Trump’s media company, through its social media platform Truth Social, revealed plans to introduce a live TV streaming service. According to the company, the platform will prioritize “news networks” and “religious channels” in addition to “content that has been cancelled” or “is being suppressed on other platforms and services.”
