Samsung and LG are here to demonstrate why “putting AI in everything” is the tech industry’s catch-phrase in 2025, in case it wasn’t obvious.

Samsung and LG both revealed Microsoft Copilot integration for their TV line-ups at CES 2025, enabling generative AI to be used on smart TVs for a variety of purposes.

At CES this weekend, LG and Samsung both unveiled their 2025 smart TVs, some of which will come with Microsoft’s Copilot AI assistant. With specialized AI areas of their smart TVs that include a shortcut to a Copilot web app, both TV manufacturers are following the artificial intelligence craze.

The days of a TV being only a screen to view content are long gone. Our biggest home screens get more capabilities every year, such as customization and connection to other smart home appliances. Furthermore, the excitement around AI has elevated this to a new level, effectively turning TVs into computers without keyboards.

In an attempt to convince customers of the potential of huge language models, LG is rebranding its remote control to “AI Remote” and incorporating a full AI component into their TVs. Although the precise functionality of Copilot on LG’s most recent TVs is unknown, the company says that users may “efficiently find and organize complex information using contextual cues” with its help.

Although LG hasn’t yet shown off how Copilot integrates with its TVs, it has showcased its own AI chatbot. It seems that when LG TV users wish to look up more information on a specific topic, Copilot will come up.

For its AI-powered TV features this year, such as AI upscaling, Auto HDR Remastering, and Adaptive Sound Pro, Samsung also has its own Vision AI brand. Additionally, a new AI button on the remote control allows users to access AI functions like food recognition on a screen or AI home security features that examine smart camera video feeds.

This section on Vision AI will include Microsoft’s Copilot. According to a press statement from Samsung, “Samsung announced the new Smart TVs and Smart Monitors featuring Microsoft Copilot in collaboration with Microsoft.” “Users will be able to explore a variety of Copilot services, including personalized content recommendations, thanks to this partnership.”

Samsung has nothing more to offer at this time, despite my request for more details or pictures of Copilot in use. Additionally, I requested additional information from Microsoft and LG on Copilot on TVs, but neither firm was able to respond in time for publication. Since there is no information about how Copilot functions on these TVs, I will assume that it is a gimmicky feature that Microsoft, Samsung, and LG are obviously not yet prepared to demonstrate.

Samsung unveiled Vision AI, a set of features for its most cutting-edge TV, the Neo QLED 8K QN990F, at CES Unveiled, a preview of the huge consumer technology expo.

Live translation, on-screen search, and an “AI mode” inside the settings are some of Vision AI’s features. Which, according to Samsung, will “adaptively optimize picture and sound” through “leveraging AI-based content recognition and TV area analysis for an optimal viewing experience in any setting.” We’re eager to see what that actually means in real life.

Samsung and Microsoft collaborated to offer Copilot’s conversational AI features for tailored content recommendations as part of Vision AI.

Similar to this, LG used AI to provide adaptive audio and visual settings for its OLED evo series. With AI Voice ID for identifying customized profiles, AI Search for locating content, and an AI chatbot for resolving problems, the company has also integrated AI into practically every facet of the TV experience.

With what LG refers to as an AI remote, you may access all of these capabilities.

According to LG, the inclusion of Microsoft Copilot “further streamlines the process, allowing users to efficiently find and organize complex information using contextual cues.” Again, since Copilot functions were not included in LG’s presentation, it’s unclear exactly what this looks like.

More updates will  be shared on this in the coming days.
