Meta Rolls Out Subscriptions For Instagram, Facebook, & WhatsApp, With AI Plans

Meta is increasing the number of subscriptions it offers. The social networking giant revealed on Wednesday that it is starting to test new subscription plans for companies, creators, and Meta AI users in addition to launching consumer subscription plans for its major programs, Facebook, Instagram, and WhatsApp, globally.

The customers who subscribe to Instagram Plus ($3.99/mo), Facebook Plus ($3.99/mo), or WhatsApp Plus ($2.99/mo) can access additional features, such as story insights, super reactions, and profile customisation, for a few dollars a month.

Naomi Gleit, the head of product at Meta, stated in a statement by announcing that “more fun features” will be introduced later in the future.

The significant shift toward a freemium income model, Meta has introduced worldwide consumer membership programs for its three main apps: Facebook Plus, Instagram Plus, and WhatsApp Plus. These alternative “Plus” packages, which allow consumers additional customisation and analytics while keeping essential features free, were introduced by head of product Naomi Gleit. This change is intended to assist Meta in offsetting its enormous AI infrastructure expenditures, which might amount to as much as $145 billion.

In the meantime, other products, such as AI-focused plans for all users and professional plans for creators and companies, will be tested by Meta in the interim. These new tests will be referred to as “Meta One,” which will be the company’s future home for its subscription services.

Earlier this year, Meta said that it was preparing to launch a subscription service, with the first trials beginning in the spring. The goal of the consumer-focused initiatives is to give power users who demand more from their social apps extra functionality. Given the limited growth prospects for these apps, which have already reached global saturation, it also enables Meta to expand its sources of income beyond advertising by extracting more value from its current audience of billions.

Facebook Plus and Instagram Plus are more concerned with social expression, whilst WhatsApp Plus is more concerned with communications and customisation. The new “Plus” plans are customized for each particular app.

The Plus Social Tiers has Instagram Plus & Facebook Plus for $3.99/month, and these include advanced story insights (e.g., rewatch counts), anonymous story viewing, extended story availability beyond 24 hours, custom app icons, unique bio fonts, and silent posting (updates appear on profiles without notifying followers). While WhatsApp Plus for $2.99/month will offer deep customization such as app themes, custom ringtones, premium stickers, and extra pinned chat slots.

The business informs us that the new plans do not take the place of its current product, Meta Verified, which focuses on extra assistance, impersonation protection, and verification, which may change in the future, although Meta is not currently discontinuing the earlier ideas.

First off, customers to the new Instagram Plus plan will get access to additional capabilities, such as the ability to create infinite audience lists for Stories beyond the “Close Friends” option and to view the total number of individuals who have rewatched your Story. Additionally, users will be able to preview a tale without appearing as a viewer, search their story viewer list to see who is watching, prolong a story beyond 24 hours, and highlight a story once a week for extra views, among other features. Additionally, users will be able to publish directly to their profile and highlight without appearing on the feeds of their followers.

Other enhancements include the ability to add more pins to your profile, personalized app icons, Super Heart animation reactions for Stories, and customized typefaces for profile bios.

Though they may also be appealing to frequent users, these features are intended to better assist producers and those seeking to expand their fan base and comprehend their demographic.

Instagram Plus and Facebook Plus have similar feature sets, and on the other hand, WhatsApp Plus provides additional features such as premium stickers, list customisation, extra pinned chats, app themes, and custom ringtones.

The plans for AI and more, including those for businesses and artists, are the perplexing part when Meta announces that it will start testing additional subscription levels in addition to the debut.

The two subscriptions, Meta One Plus ($7.99/month) and Meta One Premium ($19.99/month), will be tested for Meta AI customers. Both plans offer the same functionality, but the premium plan unlocks greater capacity on higher compute-intensive queries. For complicated activities, the Premium subscription would therefore provide deeper reasoning (i.e., more of a “thinking mode” via the Meta AI app or on the web).

Additionally, it would provide the ability to generate images and videos for all of Meta’s apps.

More casual users will still be able to use Meta AI for free, but these plans are similar to those offered by other AI model providers that charge for more processing power and more utilization. According to Meta, the plans will be expanded in the upcoming weeks with additional advantages for users of AI glasses.

The testing of the AI programs will begin in Singapore, Guatemala, and Bolivia next month, and later this week, two other plans for creators and companies will start testing in areas like Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, Morocco, and Thailand.

Like Meta Verified, the Verified badge, impersonation prevention, and an improved linksheet that allows users to link to their online presence on social media and the web are all included in the $14.99/month Meta One Essential plan.

In addition to the benefits of the Essential plan, the more costly Meta One Advanced plan ($49.99/month) will allow you to be highlighted in the Facebook feed, show up higher in Facebook and Instagram search results, attract attention with a bold “Follow” button on Reels, and automatically send “follow” invitations to individuals who interact with your content.

Through links in Instagram posts, Instagram Reels, and improved Facebook and Instagram profiles with their extended linksheets, it can also assist businesses and creators in directing customers to their website or store. It should come as no surprise that these goals include improved analytics, such as more in-depth, competitive data on Instagram and personalized audience insights on Facebook.

Optimized scheduling tools, tools for sharing access with other account moderators without a password, and notifications that let you know when someone else uses your content on Facebook or Instagram so you can ask for a label that credits your original reel are all available to subscribers of the advanced plan.

The product head, Gleit, stated that while Meta is now experimenting with various AI and professional plans, it intends to unify them under Meta One, where they would thereafter continue to be upgraded and improved over time.
