Microsoft Cuts Ties with Rosneft-linked Indian Oil Company

Nayara Energy, an Indian refiner financed by Russia, announced earlier today, Monday that it has begun legal action against Microsoft, the tech giant, opening a new tab in response to the U.S. software giant’s sudden and unilateral suspension of vital services.

“Microsoft is currently restricting Nayara Energy’s access to its own data, proprietary tools, and products despite these being acquired under fully paid-up licenses,” the refiner stated in a statement.

Since the refinery is primarily owned by Russian companies, including oil giant Rosneft, Nayara, a significant purchaser of Russian oil, was recently sanctioned by the European Union, according to a new tab.

According to people with good understanding about the situation, Microsoft suspended Nayara Energy’s services last Tuesday. They also stated that the company’s employees’ Teams and Outlook email accounts have not been functioning.

Microsoft refused to address the matter when asked.

In order to protect its rights and guarantee ongoing access to vital digital infrastructure, Nayara Energy has petitioned the Delhi High Court for an interim injunction and the resumption of services, the company had stated.

It claimed that before discontinuing the services, Microsoft had not consulted the business.

“This action has been taken unilaterally, without prior notice, consultation or recourse, and under the guise of compliance,” added the statement.

At least two tankers have skipped loading refined products from Vadinar since the EU sanctions against Nayara were put in place, while one crude tanker carrying Russian Urals has been redirected.

Sergey Denisov had to take over as CEO after the company’s chief executive quit.
