Sonatel frontiers disrupting the Senegalese digital landscape with the fifth-generation internet broadband connection (5G networks) which also adds the country on the map for being a partisan or having access to the 5G broadband infrastructure

The telecom service provider has reportedly acquired the license from the in-land regulatory system called the L’Autorité de Régulation des Télécommunication et des Postes (ARTP) that announced the window for acquiring its licenses for 5G spectrum connectivity.

Recall that the ARTP reported the availability of its official issuance of the 5G spectrum license in May 2023 which gave interested telecom service providers such as Sonatel to be on its heels in acquiring the fifth generation internet broadband licence before time.

According to the insider’s consent about the disruptive Senegalese telecom landscape by Sonatel’s 5G spectrum license acquisition from the ARTP, the telecom service provider paid $33 million durimg the spectrum bid which came up after the Senegalese regulator imposed a deadline.

The price tag the ARTP reserved to bid for the acquisition of fifth-generation spectrum license was led by the regulatory system director, Abdou Karim Sall who published a circular instructing interested telecom service providers to oblige in the spectrum license application before July 14.

Karim’s remark about the mandate he gave the telecom service providers within the ARTP’s jurisdiction was keen to determine the number of telecom companies that are thrilled to accelerate the adoption of the fifth-generation internet broadband technology.

The ARTP director followed the “outcome of examining the offers submitted, the committee for the evaluation of technical and financial offers proposed to the Selection Committee to retain Sonatel, which was the only candidate to have fulfilled the conditions set by the regulations.”

However, Sonatel Senegal is currently licensed to lead its brand of 5G infrastructure to experience paced quality network penetration in the country in line with the ARTP’s intention for the spectrum license issuance.

Karim also noted that Orange Senegal and Sonatel Senegal were the telecom service providers that qualified for the 5G spectrum license acquisition, while other telecom companies couldn’t bid according to the ARTP’s standard.
