Due to the coronavirus outbreak in 2020, many businesses had to switch to remote work. Tech businesses were at the forefront, and some even made the decision to extend the remote working conditions post-COVID. The salaries remain slightly higher than what many other industries are offering. Remote work and a high salary are appealing reasons to consider a career in tech. The past months showed that remote work isn’t as detrimental to productivity as was earlier believed. Instead, many companies saw an increase in productivity and worker satisfaction.

However, there is still a lot to be done when it comes to optimizing remote work. Companies are struggling to retain pre-COVID production levels. Going remote is not as simple as just sending employees home. They need to handle issues that may arise such as logistics and more. If you are considering a career in tech, these top jobs should interest you.

1. Software Engineer

Software engineers earn an average salary of $107,273. They use programming languages to create products, scale, or improve them. Some of the languages include JavaScript, Java, SQL, Python, and C++. Since it is a collaborative job, they work closely with UX designers and coders. People working in this field may require a B.S. or B.A. in computer science, mathematics, information systems, or software engineering. Some other companies may only require a strong grasp of software and programming language and versatile hardware.

2. Data Scientist

Data scientists earn $100,000 on average per annum. These professionals were not popular a few years ago. Today, they are in high demand by both tech and non-tech companies. Data scientists need job training as well as computer language competencies. However, some stand out when they also have advanced degrees in statistics, math, computer science, or engineering. Data scientists analyse raw data with computing frameworks. They use the result to develop actionable insights for a variety of businesses.

People who work in this industry need to be tremendously intuitive about data. They may also need strong communication skills. Storytelling skills may come in handy because it is a crucial part of the job. Also, showing a record of communication and writing skills will give you an edge. If you want to consider a career as a data scientist, enrolling in a bootcamp may be the first step in the right direction. Bootcamprankings.com has some resources that may come in handy.

3. Senior Product Manager

Senior product managers earn an estimated average salary of $119,289. They handle product oversight right from concept to production. For example, product managers working with Google Cloud would be charged with working with technical and business teams to conceptualize and also predict what consumers want and need. The role also includes rolling out services and products. Senior product managers are expected to have extensive commerce and business experience. However, an MBA is not required. Being familiar with technical processes like marketing and business may be sufficient. Any experience the manager has with roadmap executions, and product development will be sufficient.

4. UX Architect

The average salary of a UX architect is around $117,290. These professionals are responsible for both the conceptualization and website layout or mobile application outline. The job of a UX architect is essential because they maximize user experience. It is a blend of development and design. Programming website design as well as a great understanding of user functionality are parts of the skills required for the job. To get a job in this field, you must have a work portfolio showing your past UX solutions. You can also have a B.S. or B.A. in human factors, human-computer interaction, and industrial design as a plus to help you stand out.

Conclusion

While the pandemic toppled world economies, it managed to create fresh demand for some jobs. With everyone working from home, both tech and non-tech companies needed experts to make their remote transition smoother. Data scientists were there to help organizations make sense of raw data to ease their decision-making process. Software engineers were also available to build websites and apps to make the onboarding to remote work seamless. They also had other roles like managing servers to accommodate more users. This increased their demand and more is expected in the future in terms of salary and importance.
