Digital photo frames offer a quick, easy way to display family photos and more in your home, so Google Photos integration is an obvious feature. Aura frames lost that integration last year due to changes from Google Photos, but support is now being restored.
Last March, Google Photos enforced restrictions on third-party app access that had been announced the prior September, effectively blocking devices like Aura’s photo frames from syncing photos. Although Google confirmed at the time that third-party frames would regain access, no timeframe was given.
However, it’s finally here, and Aura photo frames now sync with your library in Google Photos thanks to a new “Ambient API,” as noted by the members of the press.
Aura clarifies as users may choose to sync a complete Google Photos album to keep Aura frames updated automatically, or users can add photographs straight from the Google Photos app with our improved Google Photos integration. Google Photos sends photos straight to their Aura frames, eliminating the need for manual uploads.
For the past few months, using Google photographs material on Aura frames has only been possible by manually downloading and uploading photographs through the Aura app.
Users can choose individual photographs or “auto-add” photos using the Aura app’s Google photographs interface, according to the new integration, which is described on an Aura help page. One more thing that Aura clarifies.
To use this, use the “Auto-Add” feature of the Aura app to sync whole Google Photos albums with the frame. Any new images you contribute to these Google Photos albums will be automatically transmitted to the Aura frame, together with all existing photos.
On Android devices only, choose individual images (up to 50 megapixels) for your frame or frames. The Share Sheet on iOS devices allows you to add individual photographs straight from the Google photographs app.
Even if you later remove certain photographs from Google photographs, they will still be on the frame. You will need to use the app’s “remove” option in order to additionally take those pictures out of the frame. Check out How to Remove Pictures from Your Frame.
On the other hand, any photographs you remove from a Google photographs album that you sync with your frame as an auto-add album will likewise be removed from your frame. It might require a day or two.
Although it’s not as easy as what you’d find on a Nest Hub, the updated third-party connectivity appears to be a little less complicated than what consumers have been forced to deal with since last year’s modifications.
The starting price for Aura digital picture frames is about $150 on Amazon.
