As the fearsome Ebola outbreak continues to ravage West Africa and creep into various regions across the globe, the seriousness of this public health crisis has compelled notable figures to take proactive measures to combat the deadly disease. Amid alarming predictions pointing towards an escalation of the already dire situation in the months to come, it is critical for communities worldwide to rise to the challenge at hand. In a remarkable show of solidarity with some of the most affected regions including Liberia, Facebook CEO, Mark Zuckerberg and his wife, Priscilla Chan, have stepped forward with a generous donation of $25 million or 4 billion Naira to the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) headquartered in Atlanta, USA.

The Ebola outbreak, primarily concentrated in West Africa, has impacted Nigeria as well, although measures were swiftly taken to contain it, yielding both local and international commendations. Yet, the danger remains palpable and requires an urgent global response.

The US has deployed troops to Liberia, the country worst hit by the epidemic, to support local authorities in their desperate fight to reduce death tolls nearing the two thousand mark.

Announcing their significant contribution through a statement on Zuckerberg’s Facebook page, the couple expressed their commitment to supporting the front liners leading the charge against the ebola epidemic. “Priscilla and I are donating $25 million to the Centers for Disease Control Foundation to help fight Ebola.” the statement reads, highlighting the urgent need to control the outbreak to prevent it from becoming a long-term global health crisis akin to HIV or Polio.

Zuckerberg’s generosity is not a new phenomenon. With an estimated net worth of $32 billion or 5,254,394,808,657.93 Naira, the Facebook CEO has consistently been involved in charitable endeavors. However, his recent donation serves not only as a beacon of hope in these challenging times but also as a symbolic call to action for other influencers globally, emphasizing the urgency to bolster efforts against the Ebola epidemic.
