MTN Nigeria logged 9,218 fibre cuts in 2025, disrupting network services across the country at large.

The company added that, with an average of more than 25 cuts per day, 211 sites had been hit by theft and vandalism as of November 30, 2025, affecting services customers depend on daily.

During that time, 1,624,263 of these consumer complaints were reported and handled through all service channels, according to MTN.

The business claimed to have 85 million users by September 2025 in spite of the difficulties.

In a LinkedIn post on Friday, MTN Nigeria CEO Karl Toriola acknowledged the company’s accountability for network performance and its handling of problems impacting customer experience.

“There has been growth to be proud of. The CEO added, “And we obviously still have work to do.”

“Our dedication to placing the customer at the centre of everything we do remains constant, even though we are not yet where we want to be.”

As MTN celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2026, Toriola continued, the business is still dedicated to listening to consumers, acting quickly, and promoting steady improvements in service delivery.

A joint standing committee on the preservation of fibre optic cables in Nigeria was formed in February 2025 by the federal ministries of works, communications, innovation, and digital economy.

As of last year, precisely September 2025, MTN has grown to 85 million subscribers in spite of these infrastructure obstacles.

According to data from the regional hotspots from the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Kaduna, Kano, Jigawa, and Adamawa are among the states that are most vulnerable to infrastructure damage.

In order to criminalise and discourage such acts of sabotage, MTN CEO Karl Toriola has advocated for more robust legal protections and the designation of telecommunications infrastructure as Critical National Information Infrastructure (CNII).
