On Tuesday morning, OpenAI reported on its status page that it had a partial outage that caused some problems for users attempting to access ChatGPT, Sora, and the API. Users when creating responses on ChatGPT, an error message is said to be coming up.
And thousands of people in the US, India, and other countries are unable to use OpenAI’s AI chatbot, ChatGPT, at the moment. An outage tracking website indicates that the chatbot experienced a significant disruption that is still ongoing after the outage started at around 12:10 p.m. IST, with a few reports coming in. On the web interface and mobile app, users are reporting issues with the AI chatbot’s ability to generate responses; when prompts are entered, an error message appears. The business has admitted to the problem and is reportedly looking into the interruption.
At 12:09 p.m. IST, a surge in ChatGPT interruption was initially seen, according to Downdetector.com. At approximately 2:34 p.m. IST, the number of reports surpassed 500, and as of 3:09 p.m. IST, there were 1,131 complaints. The outage tracking platform’s Indian counterpart received about 849 reports as well.
Although the partial outage has continued through Tuesday morning, the corporation began looking into the problems late Monday night. OpenAI claims that it discovered the problem and began attempting to resolve it at 5:30 a.m. PT on Tuesday.
However, OpenAI stated that it might take “an additional few hours” for all of its services to fully recover at around 8 a.m. PT. This means that anybody logging onto work on the US West Coast won’t be able to access ChatGPT this morning.
Even while ChatGPT failures usually only last a few hours, Tuesday’s partial outage lasted noticeably longer. According to the firm, employing ChatGPT may result in “elevated errors and latency.”
The chatbot gave TechCrunch the error message “Too many concurrent requests” when they attempted to visit GPT-4o in ChatGPT on Tuesday morning.
According to Downdetector, 93 percent of users complained about ChatGPT, and 7 percent also experienced problems with the app. Additionally, 1% of users reported having trouble logging in.
The employees of Gadgets 360 can attest that as of the time this post was written, ChatGPT was not available on the web or mobile devices.
Although some of the responses were sarcastic, netizens took to other social media sites, such as X (previously Twitter), to vent their annoyance after the disturbance. One user said, “ChatGPT is down. How will I respond if someone asks me my name?”
At the moment, “We’re experiencing some issues” appears on OpenAI’s status page. According to the company, users are experiencing increased error rates and latency across APIs, ChatGPT, and Sora due to a partial outage that has been going on for around three hours. The issue persists in both the iOS and Android mobile apps and the ChatGPT web interface.
Voice mode, GPT Vision, Dall-E, file uploads, advanced data analysis, search, and other ChatGPT features are reportedly affected by the outage. Nevertheless, it is also said that Sora’s ability to create, view, and generate images has suffered. The business claims that it is still looking into the problem and developing a solution. The underlying reason for the interruption has not yet been identified, though.
The temporary outage on Tuesday coincides with a rush of OpenAI announcements. The iPhone manufacturer revealed more extensive connections with OpenAI’s models at Monday’s WWDC event. A representative for OpenAI also told CNBC on Monday that the company’s yearly recurring income has surpassed $10 billion. Sam Altman, the CEO of OpenAI, stated earlier Tuesday that developers attempting to access its o3 AI reasoning models through its API would receive a price reduction of 80%.
Although OpenAI has encountered challenges in the past when attempting to scale the use of its AI models to hundreds of millions of people, this is precisely what the firm must achieve in order to realize its ambitious goals. OpenAI’s computing resources are currently dispersed, since Altman has previously stated that the company’s “GPUs are melting” to meet the demand for ChatGPT. The need for OpenAI’s models appears to be only growing.
