Ubuntu Towers Uganda has undergone a significant transformation, rebranding itself as TowerCo of Africa Uganda, following the sale of a majority stake (90% shares) to TowerCo of Africa in 2021. The renaming event was celebrated with the presence of Ugandan State Minister of ICT, Joyce Juliet Nabbosa Ssebugwawo, business leaders, and other stakeholders.

Geoffrey Donnels Oketayot, the CEO of TowerCo of Africa Uganda, expressed his team’s excitement in announcing the company’s name change. He emphasized that this marks a new chapter for the business, building on the rewarding journey they have been on since their inception in 2020.

With a network of towers covering 360 locations, TowerCo of Africa Uganda is committed to expanding its sites even further in the coming years. Notably, most of the towers are equipped with hybrid energy solutions, reflecting the company’s dedication to sustainable development and eco-friendly practices.

Oketayot emphasized that the rebranding represents a transfer of Ubuntu Towers’ positive legacy to the TowerCo of Africa brand, and it signifies a significant milestone in their evolution. He reiterated the company’s ambition to become the leading provider of green passive infrastructure solutions in Uganda.

Grateful for the collective effort, Oketayot extended his appreciation to the employees, clients, business partners, and industry stakeholders who have played pivotal roles in making a substantial impact. He assured the audience that the company remains committed to providing innovative telecom solutions that drive growth and progress for communities, businesses, and the economy.

The management team, consisting of Oketayot, George Ssamula (CLO), Ronald Onzia (COO), Mark Otai (CFO), and Harold Luzinda (CCO), will continue in their roles as the C-executive crew. With their combined experience of 25 years, their retention ensures stability and continuity in the company’s operations.

Meanwhile, Stephane Beuvelet, CEO of TowerCo of Africa, disclosed the company’s interest in investing in sectors such as education and logistics with its infrastructure initiatives. Speaking about expanding to Uganda, Beuvelet expressed enthusiasm for working in a country with a modern regulatory system and a dynamic entrepreneurial spirit.

Beuvelet also expressed high confidence in Uganda’s potential to become a major player in the realm of green-powered passive telecoms infrastructure. This reflects TowerCo of Africa’s dedication to sustainable practices and aligning with Uganda’s growing emphasis on environmentally friendly initiatives.

The renaming of Ubuntu Towers Uganda to TowerCo of Africa Uganda, along with the strategic sale of shares, signifies a significant shift in the company’s trajectory. With TowerCo of Africa’s vision and expertise, combined with the existing talent and experience of the management team, the company is poised to make a substantial impact on Uganda’s telecom infrastructure landscape and contribute to the country’s economic growth and development.
