Vodafone Group Plc reports that it has reached a legally binding agreement to pay €175 million in total for 100% to acquire German cloud and digital transformation company Skaylink GmbH, mainly from Waterland-managed funds. This is an attempt to broaden its service offerings as it announced on Thursday.

Skaylink, a top and leading full-service provider of cloud, digital transformation, and security solutions, has offices in Germany and other European countries. With more than 500 specialists, Skaylink specialises in deploying artificial intelligence solutions for business clients and managing cloud migrations, deployments and installations across Amazon Web Services and Microsoft environments, as well as putting AI solutions into practice for commercial clients.

Vodafone’s public sector and commercial clients will have access to a more comprehensive range of digital services and support thanks to Skaylink’s customer-centric business strategy, capabilities, and market presence. Vodafone Business wants to grow faster in important areas like cloud, managed services, and security, and this deal is part of that goal.

The acquisition should be finished by the end of March 2026, assuming all required regulatory permissions are obtained.

Vodafone is one of the top telecom providers in Africa and Europe.

With networks operating in 15 countries, investments in five more, and partnerships in over 40 more, we provide services to over 355 million mobile and broadband users. A new direct-to-mobile satellite communications service is being developed to serve places without coverage, and our underwater cables carry about one-sixth of the world’s internet traffic. With over 215 million IoT connections worldwide, Vodafone operates one of the biggest IoT systems in the world. We also offer financial services to about 92 million consumers in seven African countries, handling more transactions than any other provider.

Vodafone’s mission is to maintain connectivity for everyone, from the ocean floor to the skies.

Skaylink stated in its own statement that it is growing its own offerings in the private and sovereign cloud space. Another important area of study is AI.

According to Waterland managing partner Gregor Hengst, Skaylink has demonstrated a “impressive trajectory” over the last five years, providing a “comprehensive service” in a previously fragmented sector.

The CEO of Skaylink, Frank Strecker, supported Vodafone’s efforts to preserve and grow a business that “continuously pushes the boundaries of cloud and security technologies.”
