WhatsApp is about to take yet another significant step to improve the user appeal of your profiles. Personalising one’s social networking profiles is mostly dependent on the use of profile and cover photos. WhatsApp, which is owned by Meta, now seems to be working on making cover photographs available to all users, but they have previously only been available to WhatsApp Business accounts. Since the most recent change is still in development and represents a larger push towards more profile customisation, it may take some time before users can expect to see it in a future update.

WABetaInfo, a feature tracker, posted that the messaging app is developing a new feature that will let users upload a cover photo to be seen on their profile. When it launches, WhatsApp users will have the option to select an image from their profile settings. The user’s profile will include a cover photo that looks similar to those on other websites, such as Facebook and LinkedIn. Also in addition to their usual profile photos and status updates, WhatsApp users will now have a customizable page featuring a striking banner image.

The feature tracker will further provide a screenshot which will show the potential appearance of the cover photo choice. Users will also be able to restrict who can see their cover photographs thanks to a new privacy setting that the platform is expected to add. Like the settings for Status and Profile Photo, the options in testing are Everyone, My contacts, and Nobody.

This is comparable to Facebook’s and LinkedIn’s long-standing function of allowing users to post a cover photo to their profile in order to provide more detailed information about themselves. In other words, your WhatsApp profile will eventually feel less like a conversation list and more like a social community. The banner will be positioned directly at the top of your profile page, providing a brief visual overview for your contacts.

Changing your profile picture will be as simple as changing your cover photo once the feature is implemented. All you have to do is go to your profile settings, select or take a picture, and make it your cover image. It will show up prominently at the top of your profile after it has been saved. This design decision has previously proven to be effective on other social media platforms, so it’s good to see WhatsApp finally implementing it for regular users as well.

Of course, privacy settings accompany customisation. Users can select who can view their cover photo with new settings that WhatsApp is apparently testing.

Currently, there are three options; “Everyone,” “My Contacts,” and “Nobody.” The cover photo will be accessible to all WhatsApp users and this will include those who are not on your contact list, that is if you choose Everyone. Selecting Nobody will make the cover photo invisible to everyone, while selecting My Contacts would restrict visibility to only saved contacts. The more specialised “My contacts except…” option isn’t included in the setup at this time, although it might be when the feature develops.

With WhatsApp version 2.25.32.2 for Android smartphones, which is being made available to testers through the Google Play beta program, the cover image functionality is apparently under development. Since the feature is still under development, beta testers won’t be able to see or use it. The ability to set up cover photographs will eventually be available to all users, so it appears that WhatsApp Business subscribers won’t be the only ones using this feature in the future.

Most users are still not able to access the cover photo function, which is still in development. The Android app is presently undergoing testing in beta versions; iOS is probably going to follow. Anticipate its release in the upcoming weeks or months, as WhatsApp usually does extensive internal testing before to a broader distribution.

All users will have the ability to apply custom cover images to build more visually unique profiles after its official introduction.
