Duplo has partnered with Wema Bank to bring automated financial operations to businesses using ALAT for Business, a move that speaks directly to one of the least glamorous but most painful parts of running a company in Nigeria: keeping payments, expenses and reconciliation under control.

FinTech Global reports that Duplo’s financial operating system will be integrated into the ALAT by Wema Bank platform. The goal is to give business customers better tools for managing payments, expenses, vendor activity and reconciliation without jumping between disconnected systems.

That sounds simple, but it matters. Many African businesses are already digital in fragments. They may receive payments through one channel, pay suppliers through another, track expenses manually and reconcile bank activity later. That creates delays, errors and blind spots for owners who need to know what is happening with cash every day.

Duplo CEO and co-founder Yele Oyekola said the goal is to help businesses run financial operations with more clarity and control. That is exactly where small-business banking is heading. Banks no longer win only by holding deposits. They win by helping customers run the back office.

For Wema Bank, integrating Duplo into ALAT for Business gives the platform a stronger operational layer. Instead of only offering a bank account and payment tools, ALAT can become a place where businesses manage approvals, track outgoing payments, reduce reconciliation stress and make better decisions from cleaner records.

This is also a good example of fintech partnership rather than pure fintech-bank competition. Duplo brings specialised software for business finance operations. Wema brings banking reach, trust, customer relationships and a digital business platform. Together, they can make financial automation more accessible to companies that might not buy standalone enterprise tools.

The story fits the wider African fintech shift TechBooky has been following. Payments are increasingly becoming the foundation for additional services, whether that is embedded finance, cross-border settlement or business operations. The same logic showed up in the recent LemFi and BVNK stablecoin rails story, where payments infrastructure became a base for more complex financial services.

For Nigerian SMEs, the attraction is practical. Better reconciliation means fewer mistakes. Better expense visibility means owners can make decisions faster. Better payment workflows mean finance teams can spend less time chasing records. That is not flashy, but it is the kind of software that quietly improves how businesses survive and grow.
