Etsy has launched a native app inside ChatGPT, giving shoppers a new conversational way to browse the marketplace’s catalogue of more than 100 million listings.
The integration, now in beta, is part of Etsy’s broader push into AI-powered discovery and tools for both buyers and sellers.
Instead of relying on traditional keyword searches like “wooden coffee table” and then tweaking filters, users can now describe what they want in natural language within ChatGPT. For example, someone could ask, “Help me find a Mother’s Day gift under $100 for my mom who loves gardening,” and then tag @Etsy in the prompt.
Once tagged, the Etsy app in ChatGPT surfaces relevant product listings that users can scroll through, compare, and click. The actual purchase still happens on Etsy’s own site, where shoppers can see more details and complete checkout.
The experience is designed as a conversational shopping assistant, aimed at making it easier to find specific or gift-oriented items without manually testing multiple search terms.
This is not Etsy’s first experiment inside ChatGPT. In September, the company was an early partner in ChatGPT’s Instant Checkout feature, which allowed users to buy products directly in the chat interface. That initiative ended in March, after reports that it didn’t drive a large volume of sales for Etsy. The company has since shifted to building this dedicated native app within ChatGPT instead.
In parallel with the ChatGPT launch, Etsy is also testing a beta conversational search experience on its own platform, focused on gift discovery. The gift assistant acts like a built-in personal shopper: it guides users through questions, helps narrow down preferences, and then recommends relevant products.
These efforts build on a series of AI features Etsy has rolled out over the past few years. The marketplace now offers an AI-powered discovery experience that highlights curated collections, as well as tools for sellers such as:
- A tool to help generate product titles and descriptions
- A writing assistant to help draft messages to buyers
In 2024, Etsy also introduced a “Designed” label to mark AI-generated content on its platform, aiming to increase transparency as AI-created artwork and listings become more common.
The move to embed a native app in ChatGPT also aligns Etsy with a growing roster of companies that are building directly on top of the chatbot. Other brands with native apps inside ChatGPT include Angi, SeatGeek, Tubi, and Wix. Developers have been able to create apps within ChatGPT since October.
The approach positions Etsy’s catalogue where users are already having early-stage shopping conversations, particularly around occasions like gift-giving where people may start with vague ideas rather than specific products.
The news of the ChatGPT integration follows a solid first quarter for Etsy. The company recently reported Q1 2026 earnings that beat revenue expectations, with $631 million in revenue and marketplace gross merchandise sales up 6% year over year. Active buyers rose for the first time in two years, reaching 86.6 million, and Etsy reported 5.6 million active sellers.
Earlier this year, in February, Etsy announced plans to sell fashion resale marketplace Depop to eBay for $1.2 billion in cash. That move was positioned as a way to refocus on Etsy’s core marketplace.
With the new ChatGPT app and ongoing tests of conversational search on its own site, Etsy is betting that AI-driven, dialogue-based discovery will play a growing role in how people find handmade, vintage, and unique goods online.
