OpenAI Introduces Affordable ChatGPT Plan

OpenAI is rolling out its affordable ChatGPT Go subscription to the U.S. and worldwide. The plan was first launched in India in August and later expanded to 170 additional countries before Friday’s global release. “In markets where Go has been available, we’ve seen strong adoption and daily use for activities like writing, learning, image creation, and problem-solving,” the company said in its announcement.

This tier is intended for users who don’t need the sophisticated professional tools of the $20 monthly ChatGPT Plus plan but still need larger use limitations than the free version.

Compared to the free ChatGPT tier customers, Go subscribers receive more communications, file uploads, and image production for $8 a month. The AI chatbot’s price slots range from the free version to the $20 monthly “Plus” subscription tier.

The Go tier, according to OpenAI, is intended for users who like to have more access to the company’s quick version of the most recent AI model, GPT-5.2 Instant. With GPT-5.2, free users are currently only allowed to send 10 messages every five hours; after that, the chats convert to the “mini version” of the model. Additionally, GPT-5.2 members receive 160 SMS every three hours. We can assume that Go will receive 100 messages with GPT-5.2 for an unknown number of hours because the announcement states that users will receive “10x” the messages, files, and photos compared to the free tier.

The announcement through press conference made no mention of the quantity of files or photos that Go users might access every day. The pricing page states that free users have a “limited” number of file uploads and picture generations, while Plus subscribers have a “check mark” instead of an amount. OpenAI does not disclose the quantity of file uploads or images for any of their ChatGPT levels.

Go users will have a larger memory and context window than free users. Once more, precise figures are yet unknown. Both tiers have a 196K context window for reasoning, while the current context window for non-reasoning requests is 16K for free users and 32K for Plus.

While Plus and more expensive memberships will continue to be ad-free, OpenAI says it will “soon” start displaying advertisements in Go in the US.

The important ChatGPT Go features

  • Advanced Model Access: The GPT-5.2 Instant model, which is optimised for speed and daily productivity, is made more accessible to subscribers.
  • Increased Usage Limits: Compared to the free tier, it offers nearly ten times more file uploads, DALL-E 3 picture generations, and messaging capacity (roughly 100 messages every few hours).
  • Longer Memory: This feature gives the chatbot a larger context window and memory, which enables it to remember more information across extended projects.
  • Ads Included: In a big change, OpenAI announced that in order to keep access affordable, this $8 tier (as well as the free tier) will soon feature sponsored ads in talks.

Following ChatGPT Go’s worldwide launch, the 2026 subscription tiers, according to OpenAI, will currently offer the following subscriptions:

  • Free: Access to the newest models with advertisements is restricted.
  • ChatGPT Go: $8/month; GPT-5.2 Instant, higher limits, and advertisements.
  • ChatGPT Plus: $20/month; includes enhanced creative tools, “thinking” models, and ad-free access.
  • ChatGPT Pro: $200 per month; includes priority access to research previews, unlimited communications, and maximum compute.

Prior to its expansion to 170 countries, ChatGPT Go was first piloted in India in August 2025 at a localised price of ₹399 (approximately $24.32) per month. The ChatGPT Pricing Page now offers it globally.
