Snap’s (Snapchat) Spectacles go on sale online starting today in the United States for now. Spectacles (the smallest wireless video cameras in the world, capable of taking a day’s worth of Snaps on a single charge, and we integrated it seamlessly into a fun pair of sunglasses – available in 3 different colors!) was announced last September by Snap Inc to make it easier to it users to take videos on the go and sharing it with friends.
This is Snapchat’s first hardware solution and according to their filing at the SEC for the $3b IPO, they expect Spectacles to play a big role in its 2017 earnings. The IPO could value at $25b and this is expected to grow even more because Spectacles has the potential to increase the number of videos and views significantly. By allowing users simply hit a button on the glasses and recording short videos, it has the potential to capture a god share of the videos market and this could be attractive to advertisers who may want to reach a certain demographic.
By having platforms like Instagram using its original “Stories” idea, Snapchat has reportedly lost some brands who now prefer Facebook’s Instagram even though some think there could be other reasons why some brands now prefer Instagram.
You would have to visit the Spectacles website to buy the $129.99 wearable.
