Snap’s Spectacles Now Available Online in the US: A Game Changer for Snapchat?

Snapchat’s digital eyewear, the Spectacles, have launched into a wider sales horizon. Previously only available from pop-up vending machines, the Spectacles are now being sold online exclusively in the United States. This smart eyewear, priced at $129.99, boasts being one of the world’s smallest wireless video cameras, and offers a stylish and user-friendly method of capturing Snaps throughout the day on just a single charge. Available in three vibrant colors, the Snap Inc. product provides a practical, yet innovative and entertaining way for users to seize moments and share them instantly.

The Spectacles signify Snap Inc.’s first venture into the hardware business. This innovation is expected to significantly influence Snap’s earnings for 2017, according to the company’s SEC filing in preparation for its $3 billion Initial Public Offering (IPO). The IPO, predicted to value the company at $25 billion, could see greater expansion as the Spectacles have the potential to substantially increase the volume of video content generated and viewed. The simplicity of recording short videos by merely pressing a button on the glasses is poised to capture a considerable segment of the video market. This dynamic feature makes Spectacles an alluring prospect for advertisers targeting selective demographics.

Snapchat’s unique “Stories” feature was adopted by other platforms, notably Instagram. There are reports indicating Snapchat losing some brands to Facebook’s Instagram. While this may point to competition, some believe that different factors could lead brands to prefer Instagram. The launch of Spectacles could divert this preference back towards Snapchat as it adds a fresh and interactive layer to its platform.

Aspiring users in the US wishing to grab a pair of these revolutionary Spectacles can head over to the official Spectacles website. Make sure to keep an eye on this space for further updates.
