Meta’s Threads is launching a new feature that allows users to share photos and videos from others without mentioning the original post, the platform’s head revealed on Wednesday. Users will be able to contribute their own text and unique perspectives on the media while crediting the original poster. Its release builds on a slew of new features that have recently been added to the site, such as enhanced searches with more possibilities and activity level indications for instant engagement.

The new feature on Thread will be for resharing photographs and videos on its social network. Rather than quoting the original post and then adding commentary, Threads users will be able to pick a new option, “Use media,” which will allow them to simply reshare the photo or video directly to a new post where they may add their own words. The image or video will still be attributed to the original poster.

Instagram’s Adam Mosseri introduced the feature in a Threads post on Wednesday. He stated that the new feature would provide a “quick, easy way to add your creative takes to trending images.”

Adam Mosseri also highlighted the new feature that is coming to the microblogging network in a Threads post. It allows users to reshare photographs and videos from postings they encounter on Threads without the underlying post, while thanking the original contributor. According to the platform’s founder, it is an “easy way to add your creative takes to trending images and clips” without the need to write a quote.

When you long-press on the Repost user interface (UI), this feature appears as Use media alongside the usual Repost and Quote options. According to the Verge, artists will receive notifications when their posts are reshared. They can also disable the resharing feature by going into the account settings. Users can provide comments to the company, which will be utilized to improve the product.

Staff members at Gadgets 360 confirm that the feature is available on Threads for iOS but not on its Android equivalent.

A Threads post also stated that the original poster’s attribution will display in the top left corner of the photograph.

To access the “Use media” option, long-press any media on Threads or tap the repost button. It will then appear as a new option in the pop-up window, beneath “Repost” and “Quote.”

Threads has recently added some new features to improve the user experience. This contains extra filters for date periods and profiles that may be used in the search box. The startup claims it can assist users when looking for specific posts on the network.

An activity indicator, similar to that found on Instagram, has also been added. Once enabled, a green dot displays next to the profile photo to indicate that they are online. It is stated that knowing when others are accessible for chats aids in conversation engagement.

If you haven’t seen the functionality yet, you will soon; according to Mosseri’s post, it is being rolled out to Threads users. He does not define the feature as one that the corporation is evaluating, but he does state that user feedback is welcome.

However, not everyone has reacted warmly to the introduction, with some creators responding to Mosseri’s post asking whether they can disable this feature. These users remarked that not all creators want their photographs reshared in this manner, especially because it allows others to gain traffic and exposure for their work without putting forth any effort.

Threads’ account addressed to those inquiries, stating that users can disable media reuse in the app’s Settings. Users can also employ quote-post controls to specify who can reuse the media they share, according to the business.
