Samsung has pulled the curtain back on its most ambitious smartphone yet; the Galaxy Z TriFold. This is the company’s first-ever triple-folding phone, and its design represents a dramatic rethink of what a “phone” can be. With two hinges and a three-panel design, the device can fold into a standard-sized phone — but unfolds into a tablet-sized screen, giving users somewhere between a phone and a compact tablet in one package.

The centrepiece is a 10-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X foldable display, which is the largest screen Samsung’s ever placed on a phone. When folded shut, the TriFold looks much like a typical phone, with a 6.5-inch outer screen meaning you don’t always need to unfold it to check a message or see a notification.

Under the hood, Samsung hasn’t slacked off. The device is built around a titanium-housed dual-hinge system that Samsung says is engineered to withstand repeated folding and unfolding without compromising durability. The inner panel is protected by a reinforced display layer designed for shock absorption, aiming to give the folding screen more resilience than earlier foldables.

Samsung even optimized the software side. The TriFold supports multitasking in a new way users can run three vertically aligned apps side-by-side or use the built-in DeX mode to turn the phone into a desktop-like environment on the go. That makes the device more than just a phone — potentially a portable workstation, a mini-tablet, or a creative studio.

On performance too, the TriFold goes big: it includes a large battery (Samsung says this is the largest battery ever used in one of its foldables) and fast-charging support. Cameras and other flagship-level specs round out the package, putting it squarely in premium-device territory, not budget-gadget status.

Not surprisingly, this kind of engineering and screen real-estate doesn’t come cheap. Early pricing for the 512 GB model in Korea is set around KRW 3,590,400 roughly US $2,500 and the TriFold is widely understood to be aimed at enthusiasts, productivity-seekers and early adopters.

Samsung plans to launch the TriFold first in South Korea on December 12, 2025, before gradually rolling it out in other markets. The United States is scheduled to get it in early 2026.

In short, the Galaxy Z TriFold is more than just another foldable it’s a bold experiment in rethinking what a “phone” can be. By offering a device that can fold twice, Samsung is pushing the boundaries as it’s a smartphone, tablet, mini-laptop, and creative canvas all in one. Whether it becomes a mainstream hit or a niche device for power users remains to be seen. But for now, it’s a statement piece a vision of what the future of mobile hardware might look like even as Apple mulls its first foldable iPhone.
