Gemini, Google’s AI helper, will soon be available on your TV. The company revealed Gemini for Google TV on Monday, enabling TV owners to have natural language, conversational exchanges with the AI.

When Gemini is fully implemented on a new platform, Google’s AI will be available on more than 300 million Google TVs and other Android TV OS-powered devices.

When it comes to TV-related asks, Google says its Gemini AI might be used to help people with differing tastes choose a show they’ll both enjoy or to make up for lost time on a favourite show’s previous season.

When you can’t remember the title of a movie or television program, you may ask Gemini to help you find it. You can also ask about reviews to see if a title is worth seeing.

But since it’s in Gemini, you can ask it any other kind of question, just like you might with your smartphone’s AI chatbot.

For example, families may use Gemini to plan their next vacation, individuals could use the AI to teach themselves a new skill, or children and parents could use it to get homework help or come up with ideas for school projects.

According to the firm, the addition of Gemini does not imply that you will no longer be able to perform the same tasks that you were able to perform with the (non-AI) Google Assistant connection. Google claims those commands will still function.

Today marks the start of the Gemini deployment to Google TV for the TCL QM9K series.

Google recommends asking the assistant for TV program recommendations using prompts that include each person’s preferred genre or based on what series are currently trending, according to a blog post announcing today’s Gemini expansion. However, Gemini on Google TV is more than just a way to find content to watch. You may ask more general enquiries like “why do volcanoes erupt?” or “what’s a dessert I can make in less than an hour?” once you’ve activated it by saying “Hey Google” or hitting the microphone button on your TV remote. Along with recommendations for relevant YouTube videos, Gemini will offer text comments that are read aloud.

Later in the year, Gemini will be available on the Walmart 4K Pro, Google TV Streamer, 2025 TCL QM7K, QM8K, and X11K models, as well as 2025 Hisense TCL TVs ie U7, U8, and UX models. Over time, more features will be introduced. It won’t be the only AI assistant available; at CES 2025, Samsung and LG both declared that they will be integrating Microsoft’s Copilot AI helper into their upcoming smart TV models.

Chrome’s Gemini shift toward AI has made it the most recent in a long line of AI integrations from the internet search giant.

Google just added Gemini to Chrome and provided YouTube producers with Veo 3 AI video production capabilities. Even though machine learning has been a component of the Google stack for years, the company is effectively changing from being an online search company to an AI company.

However, there are problems with Google’s move towards AI. For example, publishers must deal with AI that answers search queries at the top of the search results page, celebrities must deal with deepfakes, and businesses are saturating the internet with more AI-generated content.

Google is now the fourth business to reach a $3 trillion market capitalisation, despite the possible negative effects AI may have on people and the environment. Even if some investors are starting to grow weary of the hoopla around AI, Wall Street is rewarding tech companies handsomely because it views Big Tech and AI as rather safe investments during continuous market turmoil.
