Thriving in the bustling African tech ecosystem, thirty startups have secured the opportunity to pitch their ingenious ideas at this year’s coveted Demo Africa event. DEMO Africa, a flagship program of LIONS@frica, serves as the launchpad for innovative businesses from across the African continent, providing a platform for them to announce their breakthrough products and services to the world.

With heavyweight supporters such as the United States Department of State and Microsoft, Demo Africa forges a connecting bridge between promising African startups and venture capitalists from within the continent and beyond. This year, applications in the finance sector seem to dominate the field, with numerous startups hailing from regions across East and West Africa.

The selection process was stringent, with over 600 applications battling it out for the thirty available spots. The chosen thirty now face the thrilling challenge of presenting their ideas to potential investors in 90-second pitches.

Here’s a rundown of the diverse array of finalists gearing up to take center stage:

Slated for September 22, the event is expected to be a game-changer for the lucky attendees. Startups across the African continent, many of whom have gained significant funding in the past, eagerly await the chance to shine in the global spotlight.

For instance, the hotel booking platform Hotels.ng recently garnered $1.2m in funding from Omidyar Network and EchoVC Pan African Fund. The esteemed career site, Jobberman, was acquired by OAM, while the powerhouse retail company, Konga, raised almost $40m to extend its operations within its predicted $13bmarket worth by 2018.

With ground-breaking advancements and substantial prospects for funding, these African startups have already begun their journey to success. The Demo Africa event presents the ideal opportunity to catapult them into global recognition and advancement.
