Cumulus HQ Waives $1,000 Diagnostic Fee for African Startups

Cloud adoption presents a significant financial challenge for many African startups despite its pay-as-you-go pricing model. Startups often incur charges for unused or incorrectly configured cloud resources, causing their bills to quietly escalate without delivering proportional value.

Cumulus HQ, a cloud services company focused exclusively on Amazon Web Services (AWS), has taken steps to address this issue. The company announced it will waive its standard $1,000 Cloud Cost & Architecture Diagnostic fee for eligible startups and SMEs operating or planning to deploy on AWS. This initiative aims to help African startups get a clearer understanding of their cloud costs and optimize their infrastructure to save money.

Founded just over a year ago, Cumulus HQ offers specialized services spanning cloud deployment, ongoing support, security improvements, network optimization, and critically, cost optimization on AWS. Unlike other firms dividing their focus between multiple cloud providers, Cumulus HQ dedicates itself solely to the AWS ecosystem. The company currently supports clients across Nigeria, Ghana, and Kenya at various stages, from early startups to more mature companies with significant monthly cloud workloads.

According to Kelo Okeke, Services Director at Cumulus HQ, cloud costs can gradually inflate as companies pay for running resources without assessing their actual business value. This inefficiency impacts profitability, especially when companies spend tens of thousands of dollars per month without fully understanding where costs accumulate.

The Cloud Cost & Architecture Diagnostic involves a comprehensive review of a client’s AWS environment to identify overspending and misconfigurations. With targeted optimization, Cumulus HQ has helped clients reduce monthly cloud costs by 30 to 40 percent, yielding immediate savings.

By waiving the diagnostic fee for qualified teams, Cumulus HQ hopes to support startups that may lack in-house cloud expertise and resources to perform such audits themselves. Pius Oladoyin, Sales Director, emphasizes the difficulty smaller companies face in recruiting dedicated cloud teams and managing infrastructure independently.

This gesture reflects Cumulus HQ’s mission to build long-term partnerships with African technology businesses by delivering tangible financial benefits and operational support.

The waiver applies both to startups currently running workloads on AWS and those preparing to migrate to the cloud, with the goal of improving cost management and infrastructure efficiency from the outset.

Startups interested in the waived diagnostic can apply via Cumulus HQ’s website for evaluation and eligibility.
