Microsoft Launches Copilot Shopping App with Native Checkout

Microsoft just released Copilot Shopping, an in-app AI-powered shopping and product discovery experience integrated into its Copilot app for mobile and online users that provides a simplified end-to-end shopping process. The new artificial intelligence (AI) function from the Redmond-based tech giant will be accessible through the Copilot app for online and mobile clients, and it may also be added to the desktop software (in AI PCs). This AI-powered online shopping experience will let users compare prices across various platforms, read product reviews, and keep track of the best deals. Furthermore, Copilot Shopping offers native checkout functionality that enables users to make purchases straight from the app. It is anticipated that the new capability would soon be available on desktop computers with AI.

Microsoft Copilot’s official handle described the new capability in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. Copilot Shopping comes after Google and OpenAI announced comparable AI-powered shopping services in Search and ChatGPT, respectively. The corporation started testing the functionality last month, according to a TestingCatalog article.

When Copilot Shopping was originally introduced at its 50th anniversary celebration and festivities, the firm stated that it was intended to serve as an end-to-end shopping assistant that assisted customers from product discovery to checkout. This is intended to revolutionize how consumers find, evaluate, and purchase goods online. Additionally, it provides pricing alerts, recommendations based on prompts and follow-up questions, and lists of options that the user may find helpful. With the help of the technology, customers can see customer reviews, track prices, explore products using natural language searches, and even make purchases all within the app.

Users can use the functionality by asking the AI chatbot for recommendations or questions about a certain product. Complex questions like “I recently started running as a hobby” are also available to users. Which accessories are appropriate for me? Following a query, Copilot will compile a list of products that may be of interest to the user. Interactive graphic cards are used to display them.

Customer reviews, advantages and disadvantages, and a brief synopsis outlining the product’s technical specifications and potential users will also be displayed to users. When a user selects a product they like, Copilot will display the pricing and many online retailers who sell it. After choosing the least expensive option, one can proceed straight to the checkout; however, if the price is not acceptable, they can also start price tracking.

Microsoft uses price tracking to provide the range of prices the product has recently sold for. Users can choose their desired price using a horizontal slider, and Copilot will notify them when the product sells for that amount. At this stage, customers can buy it straight from the app and pay for it.

Copilot Shopping functions as a full-service virtual assistant that guides the user through the entire product discovery process and checkout process. Questions like “What’s the best smartwatch for fitness tracking?” or “I’m starting to learn photography?” might be either specific or open-ended. “What equipment do I require?”—and the AI will reply with interactive, carefully chosen graphic cards that display pertinent items.

User-generated reviews, technical details, advantages and disadvantages, and summaries are all included in these product descriptions. After a product is chosen, Copilot shows users the most affordable costs by comparing prices from several stores. Customers can then check out directly from the app, eliminating the need to navigate between various e-commerce platforms.

The ability to track prices is one of Copilot Shopping’s most inventive features. Using a slider interface, the tool lets users choose their desired purchase price and shows the product’s historical price range. The software notifies the user to complete the purchase immediately if and when the product’s price reaches the specified level.

Last month, Microsoft started testing the shopping feature, according to TestingCatalog. The software giant is establishing Copilot Shopping as an AI-first retail partner with its current deployment, providing convenience and insight in a congested e-commerce market.
