Google Restricts Access to Blogs Containing Adult Content on Its Platform

Commencing from March 23, 2015, Google’s Blogger platform is applying stricter rules regarding adult content. From this date forward, public sharing of images and videos that pose sexually explicit material or showcase graphic nudity will be ruled out from Blogger.

Note: Keep in mind that this new policy does not completely eliminate nudity from the site. Instances where nudity is presented in a significant public interest, such as situations that are artistic, educational, documentary, or scientific in nature, will still be allowed.

The Impact of Changes for Current Blog Users

For Bloggers, if your existing blog doesn’t indulge in the presentation of any sexually explicit or graphic nude images or video content, this policy shift will go unnoticed. However, if your blog does contain such material, starting from March 23, 2015, your blog will automatically be set to private. While no content will be eradicated, the visibility of private content will be restricted only to the blog’s Admin or the entities with whom the Admin has shared access.

Adjustments you can make for Existing Blogs

For those who own a blog on Blogger which was created prior to March 23, 2015 and happens to contain content that breaches our new policy, you have several alternatives to adjust your blog before the rules kick into effect. You can either:

  • Eliminate any sexually explicit or graphic nude images or video from your blog, or
  • Configure your blog to private setting.

Alternatively, should you decide to remove your entire blog, Blogger provides you with the option to export your blog as an .xml file, or you can archive your blog’s text and images using Google Takeout.

Consequences for Future Blogs

As for blogs that will be created in the aftermath of March 23, 2015, if they are found to include content that’s explicit or showcases graphic nudity as highlighted by our content policy, we hold the right to remove the blog or take other necessary actions.
