A new call-screen interface is apparently being made available to all users of Google Meet. When this modification was originally made accessible a year ago, only users with corporate accounts could access it. In addition to offering contact recommendations, the updated call screen features a new pill-shaped search bar at the top.
The development is noteworthy because it follows the introduction by Google of a new artificial intelligence (AI) capability for Meet, which allows AI-generated notes to be used after the meeting is over. The latest adjustments follow Google Meet’s addition of AI-powered features, such notes that are created by AI after a meeting.
The newly designed call screen simplifies the features that users often use during a conversation, and the “New” button displays the contacts for immediate calls in addition to providing choices to start a new meeting, calendar, or group. Version 266 of Google Meet, which is currently accessible for Android phones via the Google Play Store, has the updated UI and button.
Users on Android have begun to receive the redesigned Google Meet call interface according to 9to5Google. Larger meeting and group creation buttons have been revamped in addition to the new pill-shaped search bar. Furthermore, Google Meet now offers call suggestions to users in a grid format.
The floating “New” button is located on the lower right corner of the Google Meet home screen. When users tap it, three choices are piled on top of the screen, titled “Start a call”—”Create a new meeting,” “Schedule in Google Calendar,” and “Create group.” Google Meet connections are listed below these selections. Above those choices, though, is a search bar that supports number dialling inside the alternatives located beneath the “New” button. Additionally, Google Meet now suggests contacts that users are likely to get in touch with.
According to Google, these recommendations are based on their interactions, such as highlighted contacts or recently exchanged emails. Google has also included a new home screen shortcut that can be used to initiate meetings by inputting a code, in addition to the redesigned user interface. When users press the Code option, the meeting’s code may be entered to begin.
The Google Meet 266 update includes these modifications and may be downloaded. Employees of Gadgets 360 were able to confirm the updated UI on Google Meet for Android, but not on Google Meet for iOS.
In the past few months, Google has added a number of new capabilities to its online meeting platform. This includes a feature that is exclusive to the Pixel 9 Pro Fold that allows users to use the foldable smartphone’s inner and outer cameras simultaneously for video conferences.
In an effort to maintain the relevance of its video chatting service in the post-pandemic age, Google has also made cosmetic tweaks to the screen to make it appear more contemporary. The updates are in line with those made by competitors like Zoom and Microsoft Teams. WhatsApp, on the other hand, recently enhanced the look of its video calling feature and added support for entertaining features like virtual backdrops and new filters.
The ‘Take notes for me’ function is another new addition to Google Workspace. It is accessible to customers that have either the AI Meetings & Messaging add-on, Gemini Enterprise, or Gemini Education Premium. It can create full transcriptions as well as AI-generated meeting notes, but the latter requires explicit activation.
