Microsoft: Teams Meeting Issues For Some Users After Edge Update

Following a recent Microsoft Edge upgrade, the company acknowledged that a bug preventing Windows users from participating in Teams meetings or accessing them via links was triggered by a recent update to the Microsoft Edge browser.

A code regression in the browser upgrade that impacts particular Teams functionalities is the cause of the issue, which is monitored under incident report TM1288497. This known problem only affects users who attempt to join planned meetings or meetings via links.

The Microsoft team said they have identified that a recent Edge release introduced a regression that’s resulting in failures for some users when attempting to join meetings in Microsoft Teams, after acknowledging the problem on Wednesday afternoon and advising impacted users that restarting the Teams client might help them get around it. The Microsoft team continues further, stating that they are working towards identifying the source of the regression within the recent Edge release to work towards developing a fix to correct the issue that had impacted users so they can restart their Microsoft Teams client to access meetings.”

In order to fix the problems with entering Teams meetings, Microsoft is now still examining diagnostic data and keeping an eye on recent service modifications.

We’re continuing to look into the diagnostic data and keeping an eye on any recent service modifications that might be having an impact. When a schedule of our next actions is available, we’ll make it available,” it continued.

Microsoft categorised this as an advisory, which typically relates to service issues with limited scope or impact, but it did not disclose the number of affected customers or the affected locations.

The company issued a warning last week about another bug in a recent Edge upgrade that prevented right-click paste in Microsoft Teams desktop client discussions. A patch for the paste functionality issue will be made available to impacted users through the next planned platform update, as the business stated in a Tuesday update (TM1279908).

Additionally, Microsoft undid a recent service upgrade on Monday that prevented some users from using the Microsoft Teams desktop client and left them stranded on the “We’re having trouble loading your message” loading page. “Try refreshing” error message.

Additionally, Microsoft is attempting to resolve persistent universal print sharing problems brought on by a modification to the Microsoft Graph API code that stops users from establishing printer shares.

While Microsoft works on a permanent fix for the issue preventing some Teams users from joining meetings after an Edge update, users can try immediate workarounds such as restarting the Teams desktop application as a primary temporary fix, using alternative browsers like Firefox to join via teams.microsoft.com since non-Edge browsers are reportedly unaffected, reverting to a previous stable version of Microsoft Edge while waiting for an official patch, and using keyboard shortcuts like Ctrl+V on Windows or Cmd+V on Mac to work around a separate but related bug that may break “Right-click > Paste” in Teams chats.

Users can go to extra lengths with this additional troubleshooting trick if the need requires it: by restarting the Teams client, the join issue does not resolve; additional troubleshooting steps include clearing the Teams cache by exiting the app and deleting files in the %appdata%\Microsoft\Teams folder along with related subfolders like blob_storage and GPUCache; manually checking for Teams updates via your profile picture menu; and modifying Edge browser settings to ensure “Allow sites to save and read cookie data” is enabled while “Block third-party cookies” is disabled, all while Microsoft analyzes diagnostic data and monitors telemetry to confirm when systems have fully recovered.
