OpenAI Set To Release GPT-5 in August

OpenAI is anticipated to release its next major model, GPT-5, in August.

GPT-5, OpenAI’s next-generation language model, is ready for release and The Verge claims that the AI giant might introduce the updated GPT-5 model in the middle of August. Additionally, the study states that internal assessments and safety training are being conducted for the new language model. On social media site X, formerly known as Twitter, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman recently announced that the business will shortly release GPT-5. In a recent podcast, Altman also described some of the future language model’s features.

Why it matters: The Trump administration’s declaration that the United States must do “whatever it takes” to defeat China has accelerated the competition to develop the largest and most advanced AI models.

The big picture: OpenAI’s release schedule has changed multiple times, but GPT-5 was initially anticipated. On July 19, CEO Sam Altman announced on X that GPT-5 would be available “soon.”

Then, on July 23, Altman made an appearance on Theo Von’s podcast, where he commended the new model’s capabilities.

As security experts and testers get their hands on the code, GPT-5 use is already beginning to appear in the field – more indications that the model is almost ready for deployment.

Between the lines GPT-5 is anticipated to integrate the qualities of both traditional models and so-called reasoning models like o3, in addition to being more powerful overall and better at coding.

Altman explained that GPT-5 would not use the model that OpenAI recently employed to win a gold medal at the most recent International Mathematical Olympiad.

The Verge, which originally revealed the updated timeframe, claims that OpenAI intends to release GPT-5 with small and nano versions that will also be accessible via its API.

According to Axios, the intrigue to OpenAI’s new open weight model is also on the horizon, but it may arrive before or after GPT-5 based on unforeseen scheduling changes.

Initial expectations have also caused delays in that model. Since GPT-2 in 2019, OpenAI has not published an open weight model.

Prior to the rollout, OpenAI is allegedly giving thorough safety testing top priority in an effort to allay worries about bias, misuse, and false information. GPT-5’s anticipated August release would carry on OpenAI’s vigorous development cycle, expanding the capabilities of big language models.
