Premiere Adds Firefly AI as Adobe Rolls Out New After Effects Features

Ahead of the Sundance Film Festival, Adobe revealed new features and product integration. The software giant with headquarters in San Jose, California, revealed that the Firefly platform will be linked with its Premiere Pro, giving the video editing platform access to numerous AI models and features. Additionally, new features and tools are being added to Premiere and After Effects to make it easier and more accurate for pros to create and edit videos. In particular, new capabilities for creating 3D effects and animation are being added to After Effects.

Deep integration with the Firefly generative AI engine is the main feature of the major enhancements that Adobe announced for Premiere Pro and After Effects. The goal of these improvements is to simplify professional post-production procedures and align with the 2026 Sundance Film Festival.

The software giant revealed advancements in a news release that will simplify and streamline the post-production process for video editors and filmmakers. This week, the 26.0 update will bring these features to Firefly Boards, After Effects, and Adobe Premiere Pro. Adobe made the news in conjunction with the Sundance Film Festival, which is scheduled to begin on January 22. According to the annual Sundance Institute study, 85% of participants this year created and edited their movies using its Creative Cloud apps.

The main improvement is the direct integration of Premiere Pro with Firefly’s vast collection of AI models, which includes partner models from Google, OpenAI, and Runway.

Deepa Subramaniam, Adobe’s vice president of product marketing for creative professionals, stated that the team is excited to see so many filmmakers using Adobe’s industry-leading tools to create their stories. “Everything we do is inspired by the creative community, and we’re dedicated to advancing AI video tools with new innovations and investments for the next generation of storytellers.”

The most significant change is for Premiere Pro, which can now use AI models from Adobe, Google, OpenAI, Runway, and more by connecting with the Adobe Firefly app. Without having to switch between the two apps, platform workers will have access to both AI models and the tools for design, photography, video, audio, and motion creation. According to the corporation, this feature will improve experts’ post-production workflow.

Regarding the non-AI advances being added to Adobe Premiere and After Effects, the business is improving the usability of the Object Selection and Mask tools, which makes tracking complicated subjects quicker and easier. To provide users more creative power, redesigned Ellipse, Rectangle, and Pen masks are also being added.

Additionally, because assets can be shared, Adobe is integrating Firefly Boards with the two platforms so that experts can easily transition between ideation and visual planning to guide implementation. Interestingly, Firefly Board is an AI-driven platform that facilitates group creativity planning. Additionally, pros will be able to browse, preview, and import over 52 million clips straight into Premiere Pro thanks to a new Adobe Stock connection.

Adobe is adding new spot and parallel shadows to the 3D parametric meshes, one of After Effects’ proprietary features. Additionally, more than 1,300 free 3D materials that may be applied to meshes to produce lifelike motion graphics are being added. Additionally, support for keyframes, expressions, and adaptable controls for titles and templates is being added to Text Animator. Lastly, a new tool will enable professionals to maintain customisable gradients and transparency by importing Scalable Vector Graphics (SVG) as native shape layers.

From tomorrow, January 22nd, all users worldwide should be able to use these new features, which are being released in phases.
